The Ram Charger differs from traditional Ram trucks in several fundamental ways. Rather than a pickup bed, it features an enclosed three-row cargo area designed to seat up to seven passengers. The vehicle incorporates Ram's design language with a prominent grille, bold lines, and substantial dimensions. The overall length is approximately 210 inches, making it comparable in size to traditional full-size SUVs. This size difference means the Ram Charger serves a different market segment than Ram's traditional truck offerings, appealing to families and businesses seeking electric capability in a larger vehicle format.

The development of the Ram Charger reflects broader industry trends toward electrification. Several major automakers have launched or are launching three-row electric SUVs in response to consumer demand and regulatory requirements. The Ram Charger will compete with vehicles such as the Kia EV9, Volkswagen ID.Buzz, and upcoming electric SUVs from other manufacturers. The vehicle's introduction also demonstrates Stellantis (the parent company of both Dodge and Ram) commitment to offering electric options across its portfolio. Ram dealers across the United States have been preparing for the arrival of this new vehicle type, which requires different sales and service approaches than traditional gasoline-powered trucks.

Practical Takeaway: The Ram Charger represents a new category within Ram's lineup—an electric SUV rather than a traditional pickup truck. Prospective buyers should understand this vehicle serves different purposes than Ram's gasoline-powered trucks, making it suitable for families prioritizing seating and cargo space over open bed functionality.

Powertrain and Performance Specifications

The Ram Charger utilizes an all-electric powertrain built on Stellantis's STLA Large platform, which underpins several upcoming electric vehicles across multiple brands. The vehicle features dual electric motors positioned on the front and rear axles, providing all-wheel-drive capability as standard. The combination of front and rear motors allows the Ram Charger to distribute power dynamically between the wheels, enhancing traction and handling characteristics. Initial specifications indicate the dual-motor configuration produces approximately 533 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, providing substantial acceleration for a vehicle of this size.

The battery system powering the Ram Charger uses lithium-ion technology with a stated capacity of approximately 168 kilowatt-hours for the standard battery option. This battery capacity determines the vehicle's driving range, which Dodge estimates at roughly 260 to 290 miles per charge, depending on driving conditions and configuration. A larger battery option with approximately 200+ kilowatt-hours capacity is expected to offer extended range capabilities exceeding 300 miles. These range figures place the Ram Charger in a competitive position with other three-row electric SUVs currently available or in development. Battery placement is distributed throughout the vehicle's platform structure, which helps maintain a low center of gravity and balanced weight distribution.

Charging capability represents an important consideration for electric vehicle owners. The Ram Charger supports both AC charging through standard household outlets and public charging networks, as well as DC fast charging at dedicated charging stations. DC fast charging allows the battery to reach approximately 80 percent charge in roughly 30 to 40 minutes under optimal conditions, though actual charging times vary based on ambient temperature, charger output, and battery condition. Ram has partnered with various charging network providers to ensure owners have access to charging infrastructure. Home charging installation through a Level 2 charger (240-volt) is recommended for owners who charge overnight, allowing a full charge in approximately 8 to 10 hours depending on charger specifications.

Performance characteristics of the Ram Charger reflect its size and electric powertrain. The vehicle is engineered to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in approximately 4.5 to 5 seconds, depending on configuration and driving mode selection. The instantaneous torque delivery characteristic of electric motors provides responsive acceleration from standstill. The vehicle features multiple driving modes, including a towing mode optimized for pulling trailers and cargo. Ram has indicated the Ram Charger will have a maximum towing capacity of approximately 7,500 to 10,000 pounds when properly configured, though this represents less towing capacity than comparable gasoline-powered Ram trucks.

Practical Takeaway: Prospective buyers should evaluate range capabilities in relation to their typical driving patterns. For owners planning frequent long-distance travel, understanding charging network availability along regular routes is important. The reduced towing capacity compared to gasoline Ram trucks means those requiring maximum towing capability should consider alternative models.

Interior Design and Cargo Capacity

The interior layout of the Ram Charger prioritizes passenger comfort and versatility across its three seating rows. The first row features driver and front passenger seats with adjustable positioning, heating, and ventilation capabilities. Ram has indicated the front seats will include features such as lumbar support adjustment and memory functions on higher trim levels. The second row utilizes a captain's chair configuration on some models, offering individual seats with center console access, while other configurations may feature a bench seat providing additional seating width. The third row is designed for children or smaller adults, providing emergency seating or additional passenger capacity for shorter trips.

The infotainment system in the Ram Charger centers on a large touchscreen display with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This system provides navigation functions, vehicle settings adjustment, and charging management features specific to electric vehicle operation. The display shows real-time battery status, remaining range estimates, and charging history information. Climate control systems include tri-zone automatic temperature management, allowing front and rear passengers to set independent temperature preferences. The vehicle incorporates soundproofing materials throughout the cabin to minimize wind and tire noise, though the absence of engine noise is inherent to electric vehicle operation.

Cargo capacity represents a key consideration for three-row SUV buyers. With all three rows in use, the Ram Charger provides approximately 40 to 50 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. Folding down the third row expands this space to approximately 80 to 90 cubic feet, while folding both second and third rows creates a nearly flat loading floor with approximately 150+ cubic feet of total cargo space. This configuration allows transportation of larger items such as furniture or building materials. The flat floor design and wide rear liftgate opening facilitate loading and unloading activities. Roof rails are available as an option, providing mounting points for roof racks, cargo boxes, and other attachment systems for additional carrying capacity.

Storage features throughout the cabin include under-seat compartments, door pocket storage, and center console organization systems. Ram has designed the second-row captain's chairs to provide cup holders, armrest storage, and USB charging ports for passenger device charging. The inclusion of multiple USB charging ports throughout the cabin—particularly important given the vehicle's electric nature and ability to potentially power external devices through bidirectional charging capabilities—reflects modern family vehicle priorities. Climate control extends to seat heating for winter months and ventilation features for warm weather comfort.

Practical Takeaway: Families evaluating the Ram Charger should test the third-row accessibility and comfort, as this seating position is best suited for occasional rather than long-term use. Measuring cargo space needs against the vehicle's actual dimensions helps determine whether the Ram Charger meets specific transportation requirements.

Safety Features and Technology Systems

The Ram Charger incorporates contemporary safety technology across multiple systems. The vehicle is equipped with an array of sensors including radar, cameras, and ultrasonic systems that enable various driver assistance and safety features. Automatic emergency braking is standard, detecting vehicles and pedestrians ahead and applying brake force if a collision appears imminent. Blind-spot monitoring alerts drivers to vehicles in adjacent lanes, while rear cross-traffic detection assists when backing out of parking spaces or driveways.
