Understanding Your Disney Plus Account Security

Disney Plus is a streaming service owned by The Walt Disney Company. As of 2024, the service has over 150 million subscribers worldwide. Your account contains information like your email address, the devices you use to watch, your watch list, and your saved preferences. Protecting this information with a strong password matters because someone with access to your account could change settings, add unauthorized payment methods, or watch content under your name.

There are several reasons you might want to change your password. You may want to change it if you think someone else knows it, if you used the same password on another service that was hacked, or if you simply want to update it regularly for security reasons. Changing your password regularly is a common security practice recommended by cybersecurity experts.

The process of changing your Disney Plus password takes about five to ten minutes. You will need to know your current password or have access to your email account associated with the Disney Plus account. Disney Plus allows you to change your password from a computer, tablet, or smartphone through their website or mobile app.

Takeaway: Understand that your Disney Plus password protects your account information and viewing history. Changing your password occasionally is a normal part of maintaining account security.

Look for a "Log In" button, which is typically located in the upper right corner of the page. Click this button. You will then see a screen asking for your email address and password. Enter the email address associated with your Disney Plus account and your current password. Then click the "Log In" button to proceed.

Once you are logged in, you need to find the account settings or profile menu. Look for your profile icon or account menu, which is usually in the upper right corner of the screen. This might appear as a circular icon with your initial or profile picture. Click on this icon to open a dropdown menu with several options.

In the dropdown menu, look for an option that says "Account" or "Settings." Click on this option. You will be taken to your account page. On this page, you should see several sections, including personal information, billing, and security settings. Find the section labeled "Password" or "Security" or "Change Password."

Click on the option to change your password. Disney Plus will ask you to enter your current password for security reasons. Type your current password in the field provided. Then you will see two fields for your new password. Type your new password in the first field, and type it again in the second field to confirm it. Make sure you type it correctly both times.

Takeaway: On a computer, log into Disney Plus through the website, go to your account settings, find the password section, and enter your current password followed by your new password twice.

Creating a Strong New Password

When you create a new password, the strength of your password matters. A strong password is harder for someone to guess or break into. Disney Plus has specific requirements for passwords. Your password must be at least six characters long. However, security experts recommend making passwords longer and more complex than the minimum requirement.

A strong password typically includes a mix of different types of characters. These types include uppercase letters (A through Z), lowercase letters (a through z), numbers (0 through 9), and special characters (such as !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, or *). For example, "BlueMouse#2024" is stronger than "bluebird" because it uses uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and a special character.

Avoid using passwords that are easy to guess. Do not use your name, your birthdate, your pet's name, or common words that appear in the dictionary. Do not use passwords that follow simple patterns, such as "123456" or "abcdefg." Do not use the same password you use for other accounts. If one account is compromised, using the same password on multiple accounts puts all of them at risk.

You might consider using a password manager. Password managers are tools that generate random, strong passwords and store them securely. Popular password managers include LastPass, 1Password, Dashlane, and Bitwarden. These tools remember your passwords so you do not have to. Some password managers are free, while others charge a subscription fee.

Once you have created your new password, write it down somewhere secure, such as in a password manager, or in a physical notebook that you keep in a safe place. Do not write your password on a sticky note that you leave on your monitor, and do not email it to yourself or send it in a text message.

Takeaway: Create a password that is at least six characters long and includes uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Avoid using personal information or common words.

The app will ask you to enter your current password to verify that you are the account owner. Type your current password into the field provided. Then you will see fields for your new password.
