How to Change Your Disney+ Password Guide

Understanding Your Disney+ Account and Password Security

Your Disney+ password is the key to your streaming account. It protects your personal information, payment methods, and viewing history. Disney+ is a subscription video streaming service owned by The Walt Disney Company that launched in November 2019. As of 2024, Disney+ serves millions of subscribers across multiple countries.

A strong password acts as a barrier between your account and unauthorized access. When someone gains access to your account without permission, they can watch content using your subscription, change your account settings, and potentially access linked payment information. Disney+ passwords should be unique and different from passwords you use on other websites or services.

There are several reasons you might want to change your Disney+ password. You may suspect someone else knows your current password, you might want to update an old or weak password you created years ago, or you could be changing passwords across all your accounts as part of a security routine. If you share your Disney+ account with family members or friends and want to revoke access, changing your password will sign out all connected devices.

Understanding password security basics helps you protect your account. Passwords that are at least 8 characters long, contain a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, include numbers, and feature special characters (like ! @ # $ %) are harder for others to guess. Avoid using personal information like birthdates, names, or addresses in your passwords.

Practical Takeaway: Before changing your password, think about whether you want to remain logged in on your current devices or if you want to sign out everywhere. This decision will affect which password reset method you choose.

Accessing Your Account Settings on Disney+

To change your Disney+ password, you'll need to reach your account settings. The process differs slightly depending on whether you're using the Disney+ website on a computer or the mobile app on a phone or tablet. Disney+ offers apps for iOS devices, Android devices, smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming devices like Roku and Amazon Fire TV.

If you're using a web browser on a computer, start by visiting the official Disney+ website at disneyplus.com. Log in using your email address and current password. Once logged in, look for your profile icon or account menu, typically located in the top right corner of the screen. This usually appears as a circular icon with your profile picture or initials. Click on this icon to reveal a dropdown menu with several options.

On the Disney+ mobile app, the process is similar but the menu locations vary by device type. On iPhone or iPad, open the Disney+ app and look for the profile icon at the bottom right of the screen. On Android phones and tablets, the profile icon also appears at the bottom right. Tap this icon to open your account menu.

From the account menu on any device, you should see options including "Account," "Settings," or "Edit Profile." You may also see options for "Sign Out," "Manage Profiles," or other account-related features. The exact wording depends on your device and the current version of the Disney+ app or website. If you're having trouble locating the account menu, look for a gear icon, which typically represents settings across most apps and websites.

Practical Takeaway: Write down which device you're using to change your password (computer, phone, or tablet) so you can refer back to these device-specific instructions if needed.

Step-by-Step Password Change Instructions

Once you're in your account settings, finding the password change option is straightforward. On the Disney+ website, after clicking your profile icon and selecting "Account," you'll see several sections including billing information, plan details, and account security options. Look for a section labeled "Password," "Change Password," or "Account Security." Click on the option that lets you change your password.

The Disney+ system will ask you to enter your current password first. This security measure confirms that you are the account holder. Type your current password into the field provided. Make sure you enter it correctly, as the system is case-sensitive, meaning capital letters are different from lowercase letters.

After entering your current password, you'll be prompted to create a new password. The new password must meet Disney+'s requirements, which typically include a minimum length (usually 8 characters) and a combination of different character types. Disney+ will show you these requirements on screen, often displaying them as you type.

Enter your new password in the first field, then enter it again in a confirmation field. This second entry ensures you didn't accidentally type something different. Many services hide the characters as you type for security reasons, showing only dots or asterisks instead of the actual letters. Some systems offer an option to show the password as you type if you prefer to see what you're entering.

After entering your new password twice, look for a button labeled "Save," "Update," "Change Password," or "Confirm." Click this button to submit your new password. Disney+ will process the change and show you a confirmation message indicating the password has been updated. This confirmation typically appears within seconds.

Practical Takeaway: After successfully changing your password, write it down in a secure location, such as a password manager app or a locked drawer, so you don't forget it. Keep your new password separate from other important documents.

What Happens After Changing Your Password

When you change your Disney+ password, the change takes effect immediately across Disney's systems. However, the behavior of your logged-in devices depends on how the password change was initiated. If you changed your password while logged into a device, that device typically remains logged in with the new password already updated in the background.

Other devices that were previously logged in with your old password will usually remain logged in for a period of time. Disney+ maintains a session for each device, meaning a device stays logged in until the app is closed, the cache is cleared, or the session naturally expires. In some cases, other devices may prompt you to log in again with your new password the next time you open the Disney+ app.

If you want to sign out of all devices immediately after changing your password, look for an option in your account settings labeled "Sign Out Everywhere," "Log Out All Devices," or "Active Sessions." This option forces every device except your current one to log out. When someone tries to use the app on another device, they'll receive a message asking them to log in again with the current password.

Disney+ does not send notifications to your email when you change your password through the standard password change process. However, if someone else changes your password without your authorization, you can report this to Disney+ customer support. The company can help you regain access to your account through a verification process.

Your Disney+ password change does not affect other Disney accounts or services you may have, such as Disney World ticketing accounts, ESPN+ accounts, or Hulu accounts. Each service maintains its own password, though some users link multiple Disney services together through a single email address.

Practical Takeaway: After changing your password, manually sign out of any devices you don't recognize or no longer use regularly to maintain account security.

Troubleshooting Common Password Change Issues

Sometimes the password change process encounters issues. Understanding common problems and their solutions can help you work through them. If you see a message saying your password doesn't meet requirements, review what Disney+ specifies. The password likely needs to be longer (at least 8 characters), include uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers, or avoid certain symbols. Try creating a password that includes uppercase letters (A-Z), lowercase letters (a-z), and numbers (0-9).

If you receive an error message saying "Password and confirmation don't match," the two passwords you entered in the fields weren't identical. This could be because you made a typo in one of the fields or accidentally added an extra space. Try entering your new password again in both fields, typing slowly and carefully. Some systems are sensitive to extra spaces before or after your password text.

If you're locked out of your account and can't remember your current password, you'll need to use the "Forgot Password" option on the Disney+ login page instead of using account settings. Click "Forgot Password" or "Can't Log In?" on the main login screen. Disney+ will ask you to enter your email address and will send you a password reset link via email. Check your email inbox and spam folder for a message from Disney+. Click the link in the email to create a new password.
