As of 2024, Connexus Energy serves approximately 400,000 member-customers across its service territory. The cooperative offers payment options that range from traditional mail-in checks to online platforms and automatic payment arrangements. Each method has specific features, processing times, and ways to track payments.

Payment options differ in how quickly they process, what information you need to have available, and whether they create automatic recurring payments or require action for each bill cycle. Some members prefer the flexibility of choosing when to pay each month, while others benefit from automation that removes the need to remember payment dates.

The guide covers the main payment methods that Connexus Energy members can use. It also explains how to find your account number, understand payment processing times, and track whether your payment was received. This information applies to members in both the Minnesota and Wisconsin service areas.

Practical Takeaway: Before selecting a payment method, gather your Connexus Energy account number (found on your bill or online account), review how quickly you need the payment processed, and decide whether you prefer automatic or manual payment arrangements.

Online Payment Portal and Member Account Management

Connexus Energy offers an online member portal where customers can pay bills directly through their website. To access this portal, members create an account using their account number and other identifying information. The online portal serves as a central location for viewing bills, tracking payment history, and managing account preferences.

The member portal at connexusenergy.com allows one-time payments and setup of recurring automatic payments. When making a one-time payment through the online portal, the payment typically processes within one to two business days. Members can pay with a debit card or bank account information. The portal shows payment confirmation immediately after submission, which members can keep for their records.

Setting up automatic payments through the online portal requires providing bank account details or card information once. After setup, the system deducts the bill amount automatically on a date the member selects. Most members choose to have payments processed on their billing date or shortly after. The portal sends email confirmations each time an automatic payment is made.

The online account also displays energy usage patterns, allowing members to see how much electricity they used each month and compare usage across seasons. This feature helps members understand their billing amounts and identify patterns in their consumption. Members can also update contact information, view billing history, and access energy-saving tips through the portal.

New users may need to verify their identity during the initial account setup process. Connexus Energy uses standard security measures to protect member information, including encryption for payment data. Members should use strong passwords and keep login information confidential.

Practical Takeaway: Create your online account at connexusenergy.com before your next bill arrives so you can explore the portal features and decide whether one-time online payments or automatic payments work best for your situation.

Automatic Payment and Bank Draft Options

Automatic payment arrangements allow Connexus Energy to deduct your bill amount directly from your bank account on a scheduled date each month. This option eliminates the need to remember to pay each billing cycle and removes the risk of late payment fees. Members can set up automatic payments through the online portal or by contacting Connexus Energy directly.

There are typically two types of automatic payment arrangements. Bank draft payments deduct a fixed amount each month, useful for members who can estimate their average bill. Budget billing allows the cooperative to calculate an average bill based on the previous year's usage, and members pay the same amount each month. This method helps members predict their monthly expenses and avoid surprise high bills during peak heating or cooling seasons.

When setting up automatic payments, members provide their bank routing number and account number. Connexus Energy securely stores this information and uses it only to process monthly bill payments. Most members experience no issues with automatic payment arrangements, but members can cancel or modify automatic payments by logging into their online account or calling the cooperative.

Automatic payments typically process on a date selected by the member, often between the 5th and 25th of each month. Members should ensure their account has sufficient funds on the scheduled payment date to avoid overdraft fees from their bank. The member portal shows the scheduled payment date and allows changes to this date if needed.

Bank draft payments provide a record of payment through the member's own bank statement, which serves as documentation for payment records. Members should keep these statements as proof of payment. If a member disputes whether a payment was received, the bank statement and the payment confirmation from Connexus Energy provide supporting evidence.

Practical Takeaway: Automatic payment is most effective for members who want a predictable monthly bill amount and don't need to adjust payment timing. Review your banking activity regularly to confirm payments are processing on schedule.

Phone and Mail Payment Methods

Connexus Energy members who prefer not to pay online can still make payments by telephone or through the mail. These traditional payment methods remain available for members who do not use computers, prefer paper records, or want to avoid providing payment information online.

Phone payments can be made by calling Connexus Energy's customer service line. The phone number appears on every bill and on the company website. When paying by phone, a member provides their account number and payment information (debit card or bank account details). Phone payments typically process within one to two business days. Members should ask for a confirmation number during the call and write it down for their records.

Paying by mail involves writing a check or money order and sending it with the bill stub to Connexus Energy's payment processing address. The address for mail payments appears on the bill itself. Mailed payments typically take seven to ten business days to process because of mail delivery time and payment processing time at the cooperative's office. To avoid late fees, members should mail payments well before the due date listed on their bill.

When paying by mail, members should never send cash. Using a check or money order creates a clear record of payment. Members should retain a copy of the check or a photo of the money order receipt as documentation. If paying by money order, members can request a receipt from the place of purchase, which provides proof of the transaction.

Mail payment works well for members on fixed billing cycles who can plan ahead. However, this method requires more time than online or phone payment, so members must account for mail delivery delays. In winter months, mail delivery can be unpredictable, making mail payment less reliable for members who need to ensure timely payment.

Practical Takeaway: If paying by mail, send your payment at least two weeks before the due date to account for mail delivery and processing time. Keep a record of your check number or money order confirmation for documentation.

Payment Processing Times and Late Fee Information

Understanding payment processing times helps members avoid late fees and ensures their payment is credited to their account on time. Different payment methods process at different speeds, and knowing these timelines allows members to choose the method that works with their schedule.

Online payments through the member portal typically process within one to two business days. If a member pays on a Friday, the payment may not be credited until Tuesday. Automatic bank draft payments also process within one to two business days from the scheduled date. Phone payments process on a similar timeline. Mail payments take the longest, usually seven to ten business days from mailing date, accounting for mail delivery and processing time.

The bill due date appears clearly on every Connexus Energy bill. As long as payment is received by this date, no late fee applies. However, since mail payments take longer to process, members who mail checks should send them several days before the due date to ensure timely arrival and processing. Online and phone payments allow members to pay on the due date itself if needed, since processing occurs within one to two business days.

If a payment is not received by the due date, Connexus Energy applies a late fee to the member's account. The amount of the late fee appears in the member's billing information or can be confirmed by contacting customer service. Late fees are separate from the bill amount and increase the total owed. Paying late also risks service interruption if the account becomes severely delinquent.

Members who are struggling to pay their bill on time should contact Connexus Energy to discuss options. The cooperative may have programs or arrangements available for members in difficult financial situations.
