Free Guide to Canceling Your Amazon Music Subscription

Understanding Amazon Music Subscription Types and Their Costs

Amazon offers several music streaming subscription options, and understanding which one you have matters when you decide to cancel. Each subscription type works differently and has different cancellation processes.

Amazon Music Unlimited is the primary paid subscription service. This plan costs $10.99 per month for a standard individual plan, though pricing may vary based on current promotions. With this subscription, you get unlimited streaming of millions of songs, the ability to listen offline by downloading tracks, and ad-free listening. The Family plan costs $16.99 monthly and lets up to six family members have their own accounts and personalized recommendations. There's also a Student plan at $5.49 per month for eligible students, which includes the same features as the individual plan.

Amazon Music Prime is included with an Amazon Prime membership. This subscription costs $14.99 monthly or $139 annually for the full Prime membership, which includes free two-day shipping, Prime Video, and other benefits. Amazon Music Prime gives you access to two million songs and select playlists, though with fewer options than Music Unlimited. The listening experience includes ads unless you upgrade to Music Unlimited.

Some users also have Amazon Music HD, which was a higher-tier option offering lossless and hi-resolution audio. Amazon discontinued this as a standalone product in 2024, though some features were incorporated into Music Unlimited's paid tier.

Understanding your specific plan type is the first step toward cancellation. You can identify your plan by opening the Amazon Music app or website and checking your account settings. Look for subscription information under "Your Account" or "Settings." Knowing whether you're on Unlimited, Prime, or another plan will help you follow the correct cancellation steps for your situation.

Practical Takeaway: Before attempting to cancel, determine which Amazon Music subscription type you currently have by checking your account settings. This ensures you follow the right cancellation process and understand any remaining charges or service changes.

How to Cancel Amazon Music Unlimited Through the Website

Canceling an Amazon Music Unlimited subscription through the Amazon website is straightforward. This method works on any device with an internet browser and is often the most reliable approach.

Start by visiting amazon.com and signing into your account. You'll need to use the same email address and password associated with your Music Unlimited subscription. Once you're logged in, navigate to "Your Account" in the upper right corner of the page. This opens a dropdown menu with various account options.

From the Your Account menu, select "Memberships & Subscriptions." This page displays all active subscriptions linked to your Amazon account, including Music Unlimited, Prime, and any other services. Find "Amazon Music Unlimited" in the list and click on it. The system will show your current plan details, including your subscription type, renewal date, and billing information.

Look for a button or link that says "Cancel Subscription" or "End Membership." Click this option. Amazon will then show you a confirmation screen that typically includes information about your service ending. Some users see a survey or brief questions about why they're canceling—these are optional to answer, and you can skip them to proceed.

After confirming your cancellation, Amazon sends a confirmation email to the address associated with your account. This email confirms that your subscription will end on a specific date, usually at the end of your current billing period. Keep this email for your records. You'll retain access to Amazon Music Unlimited until the end date shown in the confirmation. Your music listening will not be interrupted mid-month if you cancel before your renewal date.

If you encounter issues during this process, such as a missing "Cancel Subscription" button, log out completely and log back in. Sometimes refreshing your browser or clearing cache data resolves display issues. Try a different browser if problems continue.

Practical Takeaway: Visit amazon.com, go to Your Account, select Memberships & Subscriptions, find Amazon Music Unlimited, and click "Cancel Subscription." Save your confirmation email showing your end date for future reference.

Canceling Through the Amazon Music App on Mobile Devices

You can also cancel your Amazon Music Unlimited subscription directly through the mobile app on iPhone, Android, or other devices. This method is useful if you primarily use the app or prefer managing subscriptions on your phone.

On iOS devices, open the Amazon Music app and tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the lower right corner. Go to "Settings" and then look for "Your Account" or "Subscriptions." You should see a section displaying your current subscription. Tap on "Amazon Music Unlimited" to see your subscription details. Select "Cancel Subscription" or "Manage Subscription," depending on your app version. Follow the prompts to confirm your cancellation.

Android users follow a similar process. Open the Amazon Music app and tap the menu icon. Navigate to "Settings" and then "Your Account." Select "Subscriptions" and find "Amazon Music Unlimited." Tap to view details and select the option to cancel. The exact wording and button placement may vary slightly depending on your device and app version, but the general flow remains the same.

One important consideration for app-based cancellations: if you subscribed to Amazon Music Unlimited through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you may need to cancel through those platforms instead. Subscriptions purchased through third-party app stores are managed differently than those purchased directly through Amazon. If you subscribed through the app store, go to your app store account settings and look for subscription management options there.

To determine where you subscribed, check your confirmation email from when you originally purchased the subscription. If it mentions Apple App Store or Google Play, you'll need to cancel through that platform. If it's from Amazon directly, the app cancellation method described above will work. Many users find it easier to cancel through the website rather than the app to avoid confusion about which platform manages their subscription.

After canceling through the app, you should receive a confirmation email from Amazon within a few minutes. The app may not immediately show that your subscription is canceled, but checking your email confirms the action went through. You can continue using Amazon Music Unlimited until your billing cycle ends on the date specified in the confirmation email.

Practical Takeaway: Open the Amazon Music app, go to Settings and Your Account, find your subscription details, and select Cancel Subscription. However, if you subscribed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store, cancel through those platforms instead.

Canceling Amazon Music If You Have Amazon Prime

If you subscribed to Amazon Music through an Amazon Prime membership, the cancellation process differs because Music is included as a benefit rather than a standalone subscription. Understanding this distinction matters because canceling Music Prime requires different steps than canceling Music Unlimited.

Amazon Music Prime is bundled with a full Amazon Prime membership, which includes free shipping, Prime Video, Prime Reading, and other services. If you want to stop using Amazon Music but keep your Prime membership, you cannot selectively cancel just the Music portion. The Music service is not optional within Prime—it's included automatically.

You do have two main options: continue using Amazon Music Prime at no additional cost beyond your Prime membership, or cancel your entire Amazon Prime membership. There's no middle ground that removes Music while keeping other Prime benefits.

If you want to cancel your entire Amazon Prime membership, visit amazon.com, go to Your Account, and select "Memberships & Subscriptions." Find "Amazon Prime Membership" and click on it. Select "End Membership" or "Cancel Membership." Amazon will show you details about what you'll lose access to, including Music, video, shipping benefits, and other services. Confirm your cancellation, and your Prime membership will end on your renewal date.

Some users consider upgrading from Prime's included Music service to Music Unlimited for greater access to songs and features, but then decide they don't need the upgraded tier and want to stop paying extra. If this describes your situation, you can cancel the Music Unlimited add-on while keeping your Prime membership and its included Music Prime service. Follow the Music Unlimited cancellation steps from previous sections, and you'll retain access to Amazon Music Prime at no additional charge.

Another option to explore: if you mainly want to reduce costs, check whether Amazon offers discounted Prime membership rates. Students, eligible government assistance recipients, and others may qualify for discounted Prime pricing, which is something to consider before canceling entirely.

Practical Takeaway: Amazon Music cannot be canceled separately from Prime—it
