Your Free Guide to Updating Your Depop Account Address

Understanding Your Depop Account Address Settings

Your address on Depop serves several important purposes for your buying and selling activity. When you set up an account, Depop asks for address information to process transactions, send packages, and verify your identity. This address becomes part of your seller profile if you plan to sell items, and it's used by the platform to calculate shipping costs and manage deliveries. Understanding what information Depop stores and why they need it is the first step toward managing your account effectively.

Depop stores your address information securely in their system. The address you provide is used when you make purchases so that items can be shipped to you. If you're a seller, buyers can see your general location (though Depop doesn't display your full address publicly for privacy reasons). The platform also uses your address to comply with tax regulations and to prevent fraudulent activity. Different regions have different requirements, so Depop's system is designed to handle addresses from various countries and formats.

Your address information also connects to your payment methods. When you link a debit card, credit card, or bank account to Depop, the billing address associated with that payment method should match or be consistent with your Depop profile address. This verification process helps protect both you and other users from fraud. If there are inconsistencies, Depop may flag your account for review or restrict certain features until you update your information.

It's worth noting that Depop is owned by Etsy (as of 2023), so your data follows Etsy's privacy policies alongside Depop's own practices. This means your address information is handled according to both companies' data protection standards. Understanding these basics helps you know why Depop requests this information and how it's used throughout your account activity.

Takeaway: Your Depop address is central to your account function. It's used for shipping, identity verification, payment processing, and fraud prevention. Keeping this information current and accurate reduces complications with orders and account access.

Step-by-Step Process for Updating Your Address on Depop

Updating your address on Depop is a straightforward process that can be completed through the app or website. The exact steps depend on whether you're using Depop on mobile or desktop, but the overall process is similar. Start by opening Depop and logging into your account. Once you're logged in, you'll need to navigate to your account settings or profile section where personal information is stored.

On the Depop mobile app, tap the person icon at the bottom right of your screen to access your profile. From there, look for a settings option or gear icon. This will open your account settings page. Scroll down until you find the "Address" section or "Shipping Address" option. Tap on this section to view your current address and the option to edit it. You'll see a button or link that says "Edit" or "Change Address" — select this to proceed to the editing screen.

When you open the address editing screen, you'll see fields for each part of your address: street address, city, state or region, postal code, and country. Delete the information currently in these fields and enter your new address. Make sure to type carefully and double-check for spelling errors, as mistakes in your address can cause shipping delays or failed deliveries. Some fields may be required (marked with an asterisk), while others might be optional depending on your country.

On the Depop website, the process is similar but uses a desktop layout. Log in to your Depop account on a web browser. Click on your profile picture or username in the top right corner of the screen. Select "Account Settings" from the dropdown menu. Look for "Personal Information" or "Address" sections on the settings page. Click the edit icon next to your address information to open the editing form. Fill in your new address information in the provided fields.

After you've entered your new address, review it one more time before saving. Check that the street address is complete, the city name is spelled correctly, and the postal code matches your area. Once you're certain everything is accurate, look for a "Save," "Update," or "Confirm" button and click it. Depop will process your update, and you should receive confirmation that your address has been changed. This confirmation may appear on screen immediately or in a notification within your account.

Takeaway: Updating your address takes just a few minutes through either the Depop app or website. Navigate to your account settings, find the address section, edit your information carefully, and save your changes. Accuracy matters — double-check your entry before confirming.

Important Details to Include When Updating Your Address

When you update your address on Depop, including complete and accurate information is crucial for successful shipping and account verification. Your street address should include the full number and name of your street, as well as any apartment, unit, or suite numbers. This level of detail ensures that postal carriers and delivery services can locate your home correctly. Incomplete addresses are a common reason for returned packages and delayed deliveries.

The city or town name should be spelled exactly as it appears in official postal records for your area. Some regions have multiple cities with similar names, so getting the spelling right helps the postal system route your package correctly. In some countries, you may also need to include a state, province, or region. Make sure this matches the actual administrative division where you live, not just a nickname or informal name for the area.

Your postal code or ZIP code is one of the most important pieces of information. This code is used by postal services worldwide to sort and route mail and packages. A single digit or letter out of place can send your package to the wrong location entirely. If you're unsure of your exact postal code, you can look it up through your country's postal service website (such as USPS in the United States, Royal Mail in the UK, or Canada Post in Canada).

If you've recently moved and your new address is in a different country from your previous one, you'll need to update your country selection on Depop as well. This is important because it affects tax calculations, shipping rate estimates, and legal compliance. Some sellers may not ship to certain countries, and Depop uses your country information to show you relevant sellers and shipping options. After changing your country, you may also need to update your payment methods, as some payment options are country-specific.

For apartment or condo dwellers, include building or unit numbers clearly. Some delivery services won't attempt delivery without this information, and your package could be returned to the sender. If your building has a main entrance gate or requires a code for entry, you might want to note this in a special instructions field if Depop provides one, though this field isn't always available. It's better to include such details in advance to prevent delivery issues.

Takeaway: Use your official street address (with unit/apartment numbers), correct city spelling, accurate state or province, and exact postal code. Verify these details with official postal records in your country. Accuracy in these areas prevents shipping problems and account verification delays.

What Happens After You Update Your Address

Once you've submitted your address update to Depop, the platform processes this information and makes it active on your account. In most cases, the update happens within minutes, though occasionally it may take a few hours. You should see a confirmation message on your screen indicating that your address has been saved successfully. Some users report receiving an email confirmation as well, depending on their notification settings.

After your address is updated, this new address will be used for any new purchases you make on Depop. If you had pending orders at the time of your update, those orders should still ship to the address associated with the order itself, not your newly updated address. This is an important distinction — Depop uses the address provided at the time of purchase for that specific transaction. Your updated address only affects future orders going forward.

If you're a seller on Depop, your new address won't be publicly displayed on your profile. Depop keeps seller addresses private for security reasons. However, your address information is used behind the scenes to verify your seller status and is shared with buyers only after they purchase an item (so they know where to ship their payment if paying through certain methods). The update may take a moment to sync across Depop's system, but this usually happens automatically.

Your updated address will also be used if you need to request a refund or return. If you're returning an item to a seller, Depop may use your account address for record-keeping purposes, even if the return label uses a different address. Similarly, if a seller needs to send you a refund or
