Your Free Guide to Transferring StubHub Tickets

How StubHub Ticket Transfers Work

StubHub allows ticket holders to transfer their tickets to another person through their online platform. Understanding how this process works is the first step toward moving your tickets successfully. When you purchase tickets on StubHub, you own the right to transfer those tickets to someone else before the event takes place. The platform has built a transfer system that connects sellers with recipients through a secure process.

The basic mechanics of a StubHub transfer involve several steps. First, you log into your StubHub account and locate the tickets you want to transfer. The platform then allows you to enter the recipient's email address or phone number. StubHub sends a transfer notification to that person, who must accept the transfer through their own account or by following a link in the notification. Once the recipient accepts, the tickets move from your account to theirs, and you no longer have access to those particular tickets.

It's worth noting that StubHub's transfer system is designed to maintain security throughout the process. The actual ticket information—whether digital or physical delivery—transfers along with ownership. If your tickets were set to be delivered electronically, the recipient will receive them in their email after accepting the transfer. If tickets are physical and already in your possession, you would need to mail them to the recipient or arrange another delivery method outside the StubHub platform.

The transfer feature exists because life circumstances change. People get sick, schedules conflict, or plans shift unexpectedly. Rather than losing money on tickets you can't use, the transfer option lets you give or send those tickets to someone who will attend the event. This differs from reselling, where you would list tickets back on the marketplace for other buyers to purchase.

Practical Takeaway: Before attempting a transfer, confirm that your tickets are actually transferable. Some tickets purchased through certain channels or with specific restrictions cannot be transferred. Check your ticket details in your StubHub account to see if a transfer option appears.

Checking Whether Your Tickets Can Be Transferred

Not all tickets on StubHub carry the same transfer permissions. Event organizers and venue policies sometimes restrict whether tickets can be moved from one person to another. Learning to identify whether your specific tickets are transferable will save you time and frustration. This is one of the most important steps in the process because attempting a transfer on non-transferable tickets will fail, and you'll need to explore other options.

To check if your tickets are transferable, log into your StubHub account and navigate to your "Tickets" or "My Tickets" section. Select the event in question. On the ticket details page, you should see information about transfer permissions. StubHub typically displays whether tickets are "transferable" or "non-transferable" clearly in the ticket information area. If you see the transfer option available, you can proceed. If the tickets show as non-transferable, the transfer button simply won't appear, and you'll need to consider other approaches.

Some events have partial transfer restrictions. For example, certain premium tickets or VIP packages might be non-transferable to protect the value of those seats or to maintain security at the event. General admission tickets are more commonly transferable. Some concerts and sporting events are more flexible with transfers than others, depending on the artist, team, or venue policies in place.

The reasons behind transfer restrictions vary. Sports teams sometimes use them to reduce ticket scalping or to maintain fan loyalty. Concert venues might restrict transfers for security reasons. Theater productions sometimes limit transfers to prevent unauthorized resale at inflated prices. Understanding these policies helps you make informed decisions about which events you purchase from on StubHub.

If your tickets are non-transferable, you still have options. You might be able to attend the event with someone else instead of transferring the tickets to them. You could also contact StubHub customer service to ask whether exceptions exist for your specific situation, though non-transferable restrictions typically cannot be overridden. Some users also explore whether they can resell non-transferable tickets back through the StubHub marketplace, though this varies based on the ticket type.

Practical Takeaway: Spend a minute checking your ticket details right now rather than waiting until the last minute. Screenshot or note the transfer status so you know what you're working with and can plan accordingly.

Step-by-Step Process for Transferring Your Tickets

Once you've confirmed that your tickets are transferable, the actual transfer process is straightforward and typically takes just a few minutes. Following these steps in order will ensure the transfer goes through without complications. The process varies slightly depending on whether you're using the StubHub website or mobile app, but the core steps remain the same.

Begin by opening StubHub and logging into your account. Navigate to the section showing your upcoming events or tickets. Find the specific event and tickets you want to transfer. You should see a button or option that says "Transfer" or "Transfer Tickets" near the ticket information. Click or tap this button to begin the transfer process.

The next screen will ask you to enter the recipient's information. You'll need to provide either their email address or their phone number. StubHub requires this information so they can send the recipient a notification about the incoming transfer. Double-check this information carefully—entering the wrong email or phone number means the transfer notification goes to the wrong person, and you'll need to start over. If you're transferring to multiple people, you'll enter each person's information separately.

After entering the recipient's contact information, you'll have an opportunity to add a personal message. This is optional but can be helpful, especially if you're transferring to someone you know. You might write something like "Enjoy the show!" or provide details about where to meet if you're both attending. This message appears in the transfer notification they receive.

Review all the information one more time before confirming the transfer. The screen should show the event name, date, number of tickets, and recipient contact information. Once everything looks correct, click the confirm or send button. StubHub will then send a transfer notification to the recipient. The tickets remain in your account until the recipient accepts the transfer through their StubHub account or via the link in the notification email or text message.

The recipient should receive their notification within a few minutes. They'll see a message indicating that someone has transferred tickets to them and asking whether they want to accept the transfer. If they accept, the tickets move to their account. If they decline or don't respond within a certain timeframe (usually several days), the tickets return to your account.

Practical Takeaway: Write the recipient's email address or phone number on paper before you start the transfer process. This prevents typing errors and ensures the transfer reaches the right person on the first attempt.

What Happens After You Send a Transfer Request

Understanding the timeline and what occurs after you've sent a transfer request helps you know what to expect and whether to take any additional steps. The period between sending a transfer and the recipient accepting it involves several stages, and knowing about each one prevents confusion or unnecessary worry.

Immediately after you confirm the transfer, StubHub processes it on their servers. Within a few minutes, the recipient receives a notification. If you provided an email address, they'll receive an email notification. If you provided a phone number, they'll receive a text message (SMS). This notification includes your personal message (if you included one), information about the event, and a link or button allowing them to accept or decline the transfer.

The recipient has several days to respond to the transfer request. The exact timeframe varies, but typically they have between three and seven days to accept or decline. During this waiting period, the tickets remain in your StubHub account. You can see the transfer status by looking at your ticket details. The system should show something like "Transfer pending" or "Awaiting recipient response" so you know the transfer is in progress.

If the recipient accepts the transfer, the tickets move to their account, and you'll receive a confirmation notification. You'll no longer see those tickets in your account. The recipient can then use those tickets however they see fit—they can attend the event themselves, transfer the tickets to someone else (if the event permits further transfers), or other actions depending on the ticket type and event policies.

If the recipient declines the transfer or doesn't respond within the allowed timeframe, the tickets automatically return to your account. You'll receive a notification informing you that the transfer was declined or that the recipient didn't accept within the timeframe. At this point, you can attempt another transfer to a different person, resell the tickets through the StubHub marketplace, or keep them for yourself.

During the pending period, your tickets
