The city's main highway system includes Interstate 35, which runs north-south through the center, and Interstate 44, which connects to nearby areas. Will Rogers World Airport, located about 7 miles southwest of downtown, serves as the primary airport for visitors. The drive from the airport to downtown takes about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic.

Getting around Oklahoma City works best with a car, as public transportation is limited compared to larger metropolitan areas. Streetcar service operates in the Bricktown district, offering a free ride connecting the canal district to nearby attractions. The city's roads follow a grid pattern in many areas, which makes navigation straightforward once you understand the basic layout. Addresses generally increase as you move north and east, with Main Street and Broadway serving as key reference points downtown.

Parking is generally affordable throughout the city. Downtown parking garages charge between $5-$12 per day, while many shopping areas offer free parking lots. Traffic is typically moderate, with peak times occurring during morning rush (7-9 AM) and evening rush (4-6 PM) on weekdays.

Practical takeaway: Plan to rent a car if you're spending more than a day in Oklahoma City. Budget time for travel between attractions, as the city's spread-out layout means distances between destinations. Download offline maps before your visit to avoid relying on cellular data in areas with weak signals.
