Learn How to Print Amazon Gift Cards

Understanding Amazon Gift Cards and Print Options

Amazon gift cards come in several formats, and printing is one way to present them. A printed Amazon gift card functions the same as any other gift card—it contains a unique code that the recipient can redeem for purchases on Amazon.com. When you print a gift card, you're creating a physical document that displays the gift card code and value.

There are different types of Amazon gift cards you might print. The most common option is a digital gift card that you format and print yourself, typically as a PDF file. Another option involves purchasing a physical gift card from a retail store and printing materials to accompany it. Some people also print personalized greeting cards that include digital gift card codes.

Understanding the difference between these options matters because the process varies. A digital code printed on paper functions the same as receiving that code by email—the recipient enters it into their Amazon account to add the funds. A physical card purchased from a store already has security features built in, so printing is unnecessary for the card itself but may be useful for presentation purposes.

The value of printing gift cards includes creating a tangible present for someone, adding a personal touch with custom designs, and having a physical item to wrap or present in person. Many people find that printing allows them to create unique presentations for special occasions.

Practical takeaway: Before you begin printing, decide whether you want to create a printed representation of a digital code, print accompanying materials for a physical card, or design a custom presentation. This choice affects which printing method you'll use.

How to Access and Prepare Amazon Gift Card Codes for Printing

To print an Amazon gift card, you first need to obtain a gift card code. If you've already purchased a digital gift card through Amazon, the code appears in your email or in your Amazon account under "Your Gift Cards." If you haven't purchased one yet, you can buy a digital gift card through Amazon.com's gift card section.

When you purchase a digital gift card on Amazon, you select the amount (ranging from $1 to $500 for most options), choose a design, and provide the recipient's email address or select to send it to yourself. Amazon then sends the code to that email address or displays it in your account immediately if you chose to send it to yourself.

Once you have the code, you can copy it to use in a document. The code typically appears as a string of letters and numbers. It's important to copy this exactly as it appears—even one wrong character will prevent redemption. You can paste this code into a word processor like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or similar software to create your printable document.

If you want to create a more polished printed gift card, you can use design software or templates. Many word processors include gift card templates, or you can find free templates online through sites like Canva, Microsoft Office templates, or Google Docs templates. These templates provide layouts where you can insert the gift card code in a visually appealing way.

Before printing, verify the code one more time by comparing it character-by-character to what appears in your Amazon account or email. This prevents printing an incorrect code. You should also note the expiration date if applicable and the gift card value, as these should appear on your printed version.

Practical takeaway: Always copy your gift card code directly from your Amazon account or email rather than typing it manually, and verify it matches exactly before printing to avoid errors that would make the gift card unusable.

Choosing the Right Paper and Print Settings

The type of paper you use for printing affects how your gift card looks and feels. Standard copy paper works fine for a basic printed gift card, but several other options may give better results depending on your goals. Cardstock is heavier than regular paper and creates a more durable, premium feel similar to an actual credit card. Glossy photo paper gives a professional appearance with vibrant colors if your design includes images or decorative elements.

For a gift card you plan to wrap or present in an envelope, standard copy paper (20-24 lb weight) is sufficient and economical. If you want the printed card to feel substantial and more like a real gift card, cardstock (65-110 lb weight) works better. Glossy or semi-gloss paper is useful if your design includes photos, logos, or colored backgrounds that you want to appear sharp and clear.

Print settings matter for the final appearance. Check your printer settings before printing to ensure the correct paper size is selected. Most gift cards are printed on standard letter-size paper (8.5 x 11 inches), though you can print smaller if your printer supports it. Set your printer to "Best" or "High Quality" if you want the design to look professional, though this uses more ink. "Normal" quality is acceptable for basic text and codes.

Color versus black and white is another consideration. If your design includes colors, select color printing. If it's primarily text and the gift card code, black and white printing saves ink and works fine. Many people choose to print in color even for simple designs because it looks more like a finished gift.

Check your printer's margins before printing. Some printers have minimum margins (usually around 0.5 inches), which means the image won't print all the way to the edges. If you're designing a card that should go edge-to-edge, you may need to adjust your design or print settings accordingly.

Practical takeaway: Use cardstock for a premium feel, set your printer to "Best" quality for a professional appearance, and verify margin settings match your design before printing to avoid cutting off important information.

Designing a Printable Gift Card or Presentation

Creating a visually appealing printed gift card involves choosing or creating a design that looks finished and professional. You don't need design experience to create an attractive gift card—many tools offer pre-made templates that you simply customize with your information.

Free online design tools like Canva offer gift card templates specifically designed for printing. You can search "gift card" in Canva, select a template you like, and customize it with your own colors, text, and images. The process involves clicking on elements to edit them and downloading the finished file as a PDF for printing. Google Docs also provides gift card templates through its template gallery that you can edit directly in the browser.

If you prefer using Microsoft Word, search the template gallery for "gift card" templates and download one that matches your style. Word templates are particularly straightforward because you can edit them directly in the application you likely already have installed. You simply replace placeholder text with your gift card code and any personal messages.

When designing your printed gift card, include these key elements: the Amazon logo or a clear indication it's an Amazon gift card, the gift card code (clearly visible and easy to read), the dollar amount, and any personal message you want to include. Some people add decorative borders, colors that match the occasion, or images related to the recipient's interests.

For the code display, consider using a larger font size (14-18 point) so it's easy to read and enter. Some people choose to display the code in a monospace font, which makes each character distinct and easier to distinguish. You might also consider adding a small visual element like a box around the code or a line underneath it to make it stand out on the page.

If you're creating a greeting card format, you can design it as a tri-fold or bi-fold card. Tri-fold cards are created on a standard 8.5 x 11 page divided into three sections—you fold it twice to create a card size. Bi-fold cards use the same paper but are folded once. Instructions for creating folded cards are available in most word processors' template galleries.

Practical takeaway: Use a pre-made template from Canva, Google Docs, or Microsoft Word to save time, display the gift card code in a large, clear font, and include the dollar amount and a personal message for a complete presentation.

Printing, Cutting, and Finishing Your Gift Card

Once your design is ready and you've verified all the information is correct, you're prepared to print. Load your paper into the printer tray, make sure the printer is set to the correct paper type and size, and hit print. If you're using cardstock, check your printer manual to ensure it can handle heavier paper—some printers have limitations on paper weight.
