Learn How to Find Your Discord ID

What Is a Discord ID and Why You Might Need It

A Discord ID is a unique numerical identifier assigned to your account when you create a Discord profile. Think of it like a social security number, but specifically for Discord. This ID is different from your username or display name. While your username might be something like "GamerPro123" or "CoffeeLovers," your Discord ID is a long string of numbers that only you have. Discord generates this ID automatically and it never changes, even if you alter your username multiple times throughout your account's lifespan.

Understanding the difference between your username and your ID matters because they serve different purposes on the platform. Your username is what other users see when they interact with you in servers or direct messages. Your Discord ID, on the other hand, is used behind the scenes by Discord's systems and by bots that might be running in servers you join. Many Discord bots require your ID to function properly, especially bots designed for moderation, games, music playing, or other automated tasks.

You might need your Discord ID for several reasons. Bot developers often ask for IDs when troubleshooting issues. Server administrators may need your ID to apply specific roles or permissions. If you're developing a bot yourself or integrating Discord with other applications, you'll need to reference user IDs. Additionally, if you're reporting a problem to Discord support or participating in certain Discord communities with automated systems, having your ID ready can streamline the process.

Your Discord ID remains constant and tied to your account regardless of changes you make. Even if you change your username, server nickname, profile picture, or any other customizable element, your Discord ID stays exactly the same. This permanence is actually a useful feature because it ensures that any systems or bots using your ID will continue to recognize you correctly.

Practical Takeaway: Knowing your Discord ID is useful for bot interactions, troubleshooting, and developer work. Save your ID in a safe place where you can reference it when needed, such as a password manager or personal notes document.

Method 1: Finding Your ID Through User Settings

The most straightforward way to find your Discord ID is through your account settings. This method works on both desktop and mobile versions of Discord and doesn't require any special knowledge or external tools. Start by opening Discord and ensuring you're logged into your account. On the desktop version, look for the user profile icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen. This icon displays your current username or profile picture. Click on this icon to open a menu with several options.

Once the menu appears, you'll see a section that shows your username and account status. Look for the three horizontal lines icon (called a hamburger menu) or your username section. On desktop, you can also access user settings by clicking the gear icon. Navigate to the "User Settings" option, which appears as a gear or cog symbol. This opens your account settings dashboard where you can manage various aspects of your profile.

Within User Settings, look for the "Advanced" tab. This section contains technical settings that aren't immediately visible in the main profile page. Scroll down until you locate an option labeled "Developer Mode" or similar. Enable Developer Mode by toggling the switch next to it. Developer Mode is a Discord feature that reveals additional information and options throughout the application, including the ability to see user IDs, channel IDs, and server IDs by right-clicking on them.

After enabling Developer Mode, you can now right-click on your own username or profile picture anywhere in Discord, and a context menu will appear. One of the options in this menu will say "Copy User ID" or "Copy ID." Click this option, and your Discord ID is now copied to your clipboard, ready to paste wherever you need it. On mobile devices, press and hold your username instead of right-clicking, and look for the same option.

Practical Takeaway: Enable Developer Mode once in your settings, and you'll be able to quickly find and copy your ID (and any user's ID) by right-clicking their name anywhere in Discord. This is the fastest method once set up.

Method 2: Using the Profile Card Display

Another way to view your Discord ID is through your profile card, which displays various information about your account. Your profile card is a visual representation of your Discord presence and includes details like your username, status, mutual servers, and other account information. To access your profile card, click on your username or profile picture while in Discord. The profile card will slide out from the side of your screen or appear as a pop-up window, depending on whether you're using desktop or mobile.

On your profile card, you'll see your username prominently displayed at the top, followed by your status (online, away, offline, or do not disturb). Below this information, there's usually a section showing your account creation date and other profile details. If you've enabled Developer Mode as described in the previous section, you can right-click anywhere on your profile card and select "Copy User ID" from the menu that appears. This is essentially the same as the previous method but accessed through a different starting point.

Some users find the profile card method more intuitive because it displays your account information in an organized, visual format. You can see your profile picture, any badges indicating nitro status or special roles, and mutual servers all in one location. This makes it easier to verify you're looking at the correct account information before copying your ID. The profile card also shows when you joined Discord as a platform, which can be interesting historical information about your account.

If Developer Mode isn't enabled, you won't see the "Copy User ID" option when right-clicking on your profile card. This is why enabling Developer Mode first is essential for using this method efficiently. Once Developer Mode is activated, you can access your ID from your profile card at any time, making it a convenient secondary method if your primary method isn't working for some reason.

Practical Takeaway: Your profile card provides a central location to view your account information and copy your ID once Developer Mode is enabled. This method is particularly useful if you want to verify other account details at the same time.

Method 3: Finding Your ID in Server and Chat Contexts

Your Discord ID appears in various contexts throughout the platform, and you can locate it by examining messages, server information, or account references. When you send a message in any Discord server or direct message, your ID is embedded in that message's metadata, though it's not visible to regular users. However, developers and people using certain tools can see this information. If you've enabled Developer Mode, you can right-click on any of your own messages and look for options related to viewing message details or copying your ID.

Another place your ID appears is in invitation links or references. When someone invites you to a server or creates a special link related to your account, your Discord ID is often included in the URL or data associated with that link. However, these links are typically long and complex, making this method less practical for simply retrieving your ID. The cleaner methods described in previous sections are more efficient.

In some Discord servers, particularly those with advanced bots or moderation systems, your ID might be displayed when you trigger certain commands or systems. For example, if a server has a welcome bot that greets new members, it might include your ID in the welcome message. Similarly, if you use certain utility bots that display user information, your ID will appear in the output. These instances show your ID in context with other information, which can be helpful if you're trying to verify the ID is correct.

Server administrators and bot developers have additional ways to view user IDs within servers. They can access logs, audit trails, or bot commands that display member IDs. However, if you're simply a regular member of a server, these administrative tools won't be available to you. This is why using the user settings method or profile card method is most practical for regular Discord users who need to find their own ID.

Practical Takeaway: While your ID appears in various Discord contexts, the most reliable way to find it remains through your user settings or profile card with Developer Mode enabled. Don't rely on searching through messages or server data.

Method 4: Using Discord Bots to Display Your ID

Many Discord bots include commands that will display your user ID and other profile information. These bots are programs that perform automated tasks in Discord servers, and many include utility commands designed to show user data. Common bots that offer this functionality include MEE6, Dyno, UnbelievaBoat, and many others. To use a bot's ID command, you first need to ensure that bot is added to a
