Learn How To Cancel Your Dashpass Subscription

Understanding DashPass and What It Covers

DashPass is a subscription service offered by DoorDash, a food delivery platform that operates in the United States and several other countries. When you subscribe to DashPass, you pay a monthly or annual fee in exchange for benefits on your deliveries. The subscription typically includes reduced delivery fees on eligible orders, waived small order minimums, and priority customer service access.

As of 2024, DashPass membership costs $9.99 per month or $96 per year if you pay annually. Some customers may see promotional pricing, such as $4.99 for the first month or discounted annual rates. However, pricing can vary by location and may change over time. DashPass benefits apply to most restaurants and merchants available through the DoorDash app, though certain merchants may be excluded from the program.

The subscription renews automatically each month or year, depending on which billing cycle you chose when you first subscribed. This means your payment method will be charged automatically on your renewal date unless you cancel before that date arrives. Many people maintain DashPass subscriptions for months or years without realizing they're still being charged, especially if they don't use the service regularly or if they've stopped checking their bank statements.

Understanding what DashPass actually provides helps you decide whether the subscription remains useful for your needs. Some users find the delivery fee savings and other benefits worthwhile, while others realize they rarely order delivery or could save money by canceling. The decision to keep or cancel DashPass depends on your personal delivery habits and budget.

Practical Takeaway: Review your DoorDash account to confirm your current DashPass status, renewal date, and the billing amount before proceeding with cancellation. This information appears in your account settings under "Payment" or "Subscription."

Steps to Cancel DashPass Through the Mobile App

The most straightforward way to cancel DashPass is through the DoorDash mobile application, which you can download on iPhone or Android devices. This method takes just a few minutes and provides immediate confirmation that your subscription has been canceled. Follow these steps to complete the process through your phone.

First, open the DoorDash app on your device and log into your account using your email address and password. If you've forgotten your login information, use the "Forgot Password" option on the login screen to reset it. Once you're logged in, look for the account icon, which typically appears as a person's silhouette in the bottom right corner of the app's main screen. Tap this icon to access your account menu.

In your account settings, locate and tap on "Payments" or "Payment Methods." Some versions of the app may label this section as "Billing" or "Account." Within this section, you should see information about your DashPass subscription, including your current plan and next billing date. Look for a button or link that says "Manage DashPass," "Cancel Membership," or "View Subscription Details." Tap this option to proceed.

A screen will appear showing your DashPass details and asking if you want to cancel. The app will likely display a message explaining what you'll lose, such as delivery fee discounts. You may also see offers to keep your membership at a reduced price. If you're certain you want to cancel, select the option to confirm cancellation. The app will show a confirmation message indicating that your DashPass membership has been canceled. Your access to DashPass benefits will end on your next renewal date, not immediately.

Practical Takeaway: Take a screenshot of your cancellation confirmation message in case you need proof later that you requested cancellation. Store this image in your phone's photos or a cloud storage service for reference.

Canceling DashPass Through the Website

If you prefer to cancel on a computer or don't have the DoorDash app installed, you can cancel your DashPass subscription through the DoorDash website. This method works on any device with an internet browser, including computers, tablets, and phones. The process is similar to the mobile app method and takes about five minutes.

Go to www.doordash.com in your web browser and click the "Account" or profile icon, usually located in the upper right corner of the page. You may need to log in if you're not already signed into your DoorDash account. After logging in, look for account settings or profile options. Different versions of the website may organize these options differently, but they're typically in a menu labeled "Account," "Settings," or "Your Account."

Once in your account settings, find the section for "Subscriptions," "Membership," or "DashPass." Click on this section to view your current subscription details. You should see information about your DashPass plan, the next billing date, and the amount you'll be charged. Look for a button or link labeled "Cancel Membership," "Cancel Subscription," or "Manage DashPass." Click this button to start the cancellation process.

The website will prompt you to confirm that you want to cancel. Similar to the app, it may display retention offers or remind you about the benefits you'll lose. If you want to proceed with cancellation, select the confirmation option. The website will display a message confirming that your cancellation request has been processed. You'll receive an email confirmation to the address associated with your DoorDash account, which provides written proof of your cancellation request.

Some users prefer the website method because email confirmations provide documentation. If your cancellation doesn't appear to process, check your email spam or junk folder for the confirmation message from DoorDash.

Practical Takeaway: Save or print the confirmation email you receive after canceling through the website. Keep this document for at least three to six months in case you need to dispute a charge or provide proof of cancellation to your bank.

What Happens After You Cancel Your Subscription

When you cancel DashPass, your subscription remains active until your next renewal date. This is an important detail that many people misunderstand. If your renewal date is three weeks away, you'll still have DashPass benefits for those three weeks. Only after your renewal date passes will your access to DashPass benefits end. At that point, you'll be charged the regular delivery fees on your orders.

During the time between your cancellation request and your renewal date, you can still use all DashPass benefits as usual. You won't receive any notifications or warnings about the cancellation. You'll continue to see reduced delivery fees and other member perks in the app. Some users cancel their subscription but forget and believe they've lost benefits immediately, causing unnecessary confusion.

After your DashPass membership ends, you can still use DoorDash to order food and other items. However, you'll pay the standard delivery fees, which are typically higher than the reduced fees available to DashPass members. You may also notice that certain orders have minimum purchase amounts, since DashPass members often get waivers on these minimums. Ordering without DashPass is still possible; you'll simply pay more per order.

If you change your mind after canceling, you can reactivate DashPass at any time. You can restart your membership through the app or website using the same process you used to cancel. If you reactivate after your membership has already ended, you'll start a new billing cycle immediately. You won't get a refund for any unused portion of your previous membership, and you won't receive a partial refund for canceling early.

You may receive promotional offers from DoorDash encouraging you to restart your DashPass membership. These might include discounted rates or special introductory pricing. You're not required to accept these offers. You can ignore promotional emails or delete them if you prefer not to reactivate your subscription.

Practical Takeaway: Mark your calendar with your DashPass renewal date so you know when your benefits will end. This helps you plan your use of the service during the final weeks and prevent any surprise charges if you forget you still have an active membership.

Troubleshooting Problems With Your Cancellation

Most cancellations process without issues, but some users experience problems. Common issues include being unable to find the cancel option in the app or website, receiving error messages when attempting to cancel, or noticing that charges continue after requesting cancellation. Understanding these problems and how to address them can resolve your situation.
