Beaumont's water department bills customers on a monthly cycle. Most customers receive their bills around the same time each month, though the exact date may vary based on your meter's reading schedule. The billing period typically covers 30 days of water usage, though some months may have slightly longer or shorter periods depending on the calendar and meter reading schedules.

Water bills in Beaumont include charges for several components. The primary charge reflects your water consumption, measured in units called hundred cubic feet (HCF). One HCF equals approximately 748 gallons. Beyond the water usage charge, your bill typically includes a wastewater treatment fee, which covers the cost of treating and returning water to the environment after it leaves your home or business. Your bill may also include a stormwater management fee in some areas, which funds drainage and flood control infrastructure.

The City of Beaumont charges different rates depending on whether you're a residential or commercial customer. Residential rates are generally lower per unit, while commercial and industrial customers pay rates designed to reflect their higher usage patterns. Some properties may also qualify for specific rate classifications based on their use type.

Understanding your bill's structure helps you monitor your water usage and identify potential issues. For example, a sudden spike in your bill without a corresponding change in your household habits might indicate a leak. By reviewing your bill regularly, you can track your consumption patterns and make informed decisions about water conservation.

Practical Takeaway: Review your water bill monthly to understand the different charges and track your usage patterns. Keep bills for at least one year to establish a baseline for what's normal for your household or business.

How to Read Your Beaumont Water Bill

Your Beaumont water bill contains several key pieces of information that help you understand what you're being charged for and how much water you've used. At the top of the bill, you'll find your account number, service address, and billing period dates. These details confirm the bill is for your property and specify which month's usage is being charged.

The "meter reading" section shows two numbers: your current meter reading and your previous meter reading. The difference between these two numbers represents your water consumption for that billing period, measured in HCF (hundred cubic feet). For example, if your previous reading was 500 HCF and your current reading is 525 HCF, you used 25 HCF during the billing period, or approximately 18,700 gallons.

The charges section breaks down what you're paying for. The water usage charge is calculated by multiplying your consumption (in HCF) by the rate per HCF. Beaumont typically uses tiered rates, meaning the price per unit may increase as you use more water. A small amount of water might be charged at one rate, while additional water is charged at a higher rate. This encourages water conservation by making excessive usage more expensive. Your bill will show each tier and the rate applied to consumption within that tier.

Below the usage charges, you'll see the wastewater treatment charge. This is typically a flat fee or a charge based on your water consumption, as the city assumes water that enters your property eventually leaves as wastewater. Your bill may also show fees for services like meter maintenance or system improvements.

The bill displays the amount due and the due date, usually 15 to 20 days after the bill is issued. It will also show a late payment penalty and the date after which that penalty applies. Most bills include information about how to pay, whether online, by phone, mail, or in person.

Practical Takeaway: Keep a record of your meter readings each month. Compare your current usage to previous months to spot unusual changes that might indicate a water leak or a change in household usage patterns.

Online payment through the city's website is one of the most popular methods. You can typically log into your account on Beaumont's official water department website or portal using your account number and a password you create. The online system allows you to view your current bill, see your payment history, and make payments using a bank account (ACH transfer) or credit/debit card. Online payment usually processes within one to two business days, though some systems offer next-day processing options. This method is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, making it convenient for people with busy schedules.

Phone payment is another option for customers who prefer speaking with a representative or need assistance. You can call the City of Beaumont's water department billing office during business hours to pay by phone using a credit card, debit card, or bank account information. The phone number for bill payments is typically found on your water bill. When you pay by phone, ask for confirmation of your payment and when it will be processed.

Mail payment remains a traditional but still-used option. You can send a check or money order to the address printed on your bill. Include your account number on the check. Mail payment typically takes five to seven business days to process, so mail your payment well before the due date to avoid late fees. Keep a copy of your check or a photo showing the account number for your records.

In-person payment at the city's billing office is available during regular business hours. You can pay in cash, check, or card at the office location printed on your bill. This method allows you to receive immediate confirmation of payment and ask questions about your bill to a staff member.

Some customers also may set up automatic payments, where a set amount is deducted from their bank account each month on a date they choose. This method helps prevent missed payments and late fees.

Practical Takeaway: Choose a payment method that fits your routine. If you choose mail payment, send it at least seven days before the due date to ensure it arrives on time.

Understanding Water Rates and Charges in Beaumont

Most water systems, including Beaumont's, use tiered or increasing block rates. Under this system, the first amount of water you use in a month is charged at one rate, the next tier of usage is charged at a higher rate, and any usage beyond that may be charged at an even higher rate. For example, the first 10 HCF might be charged at $3 per HCF, the next 10 HCF at $4 per HCF, and anything beyond 20 HCF at $5 per HCF. This system encourages conservation by making excessive water use more expensive while keeping basic water access affordable for all customers.

The wastewater treatment charge covers the cost of treating water after it leaves your home. Your household water goes down the drain as wastewater and flows to a treatment facility where it's cleaned before being released into rivers or reused. This charge is often based on your water consumption, as the assumption is that most water entering your home eventually leaves as wastewater. A typical residential wastewater charge might be 50 to 100 percent of the water usage charge, depending on your local system.

Additional charges may include a base or service charge—a flat monthly fee that covers meter reading and system maintenance regardless of how much water you use. Some cities include this in the usage charges, while others list it separately. You may also see stormwater fees in some areas, which fund drainage systems and flood management. Some properties, particularly those in designated areas, pay stormwater fees based on the impervious surface area (like roofs and driveways) on their property.

Beaumont may also charge for specific services or system improvements. For example, if the city is upgrading water mains in your area, there may be a temporary charge to help fund that project. These charges are usually
