The North Richland Hills Water Utility serves approximately 80,000 residents across the service area. With such a large customer base, the utility has developed several payment channels to accommodate different preferences. Each method has its own process, timing requirements, and features that may appeal to different households.

Payment methods generally fall into three categories: in-person payments, mail payments, and electronic payments. Each category has distinct advantages depending on your comfort level with technology, how quickly you need to pay, and your preferred way of handling finances. Some people prefer the security of in-person transactions, while others value the convenience of paying from home without writing checks or using a stamp.

Water bills in North Richland Hills are typically due within a specified timeframe from the billing date. Late payments may result in additional fees or service interruption notices. Knowing your payment options in advance allows you to plan ahead and avoid potential late payment situations.

Practical Takeaway: Review all available payment methods before your first bill arrives so you can select the option that best fits your daily routine and financial management style.

Online Payment Through NRH's Billing Portal

NRH Water maintains an online billing portal where customers can view their account information and make payments through their computer or mobile device. This portal represents one of the most convenient options for many residents because it allows you to pay at any hour, without visiting a physical location or mailing a check. The online system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which means you can pay your bill at midnight if needed.

To use the online payment portal, you typically need your account number, which appears on your printed water bill. The account number is a unique identifier that connects to your address and billing history. Once you log in or create an account on the NRH website, you can view your current balance, payment history, and usage information. This visibility helps you track your water consumption patterns over time and spot any unusual spikes that might indicate a leak.

The online portal generally accepts payment through:

• Debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and similar cards)
• Credit cards (though processing fees may apply)
• Bank account transfers (ACH payments, which are often processed without additional fees)

When making an online payment, you should receive a confirmation number immediately. Save this confirmation number as proof of payment, especially if you pay close to the due date. The confirmation typically shows the amount paid, the payment date, and when the payment will be processed by the utility's banking system. Processing times vary depending on the payment method—debit and credit card payments may take 1-2 business days, while ACH transfers might take 2-3 business days.

One advantage of online payment is the option to set up recurring payments, which automatically deduct your bill each month. This feature helps prevent late payments because the money transfers automatically on a date you choose. However, you should still monitor your account to ensure charges are correct and your bank account has sufficient funds.

Practical Takeaway: Set up an online account during a time when you're not rushed so you can explore the portal's features, such as viewing your usage history and understanding your charges before making your first payment.

Automatic Payment Setup and Recurring Billing Options

Automatic payment, also called recurring billing or autopay, is a system where NRH Water automatically withdraws your bill amount from your bank account or charges your card on a date you select each month. This method eliminates the need to remember payment dates and reduces the risk of late fees. Many households find this option valuable for maintaining consistent cash flow management and avoiding missed payments.

To set up automatic payments, you typically start through the online billing portal or by calling NRH Water's customer service line. You'll need to provide banking information, such as your routing number and account number, or card details if you prefer a credit or debit card as the payment source. The utility stores this information securely and uses it only for processing your monthly water bill.

When setting up automatic payments, you should consider these factors:

• Payment date: Choose a date that aligns with when you receive income or have funds available
• Payment frequency: Most customers set payments for the same day each month, matching their billing cycle
• Account monitoring: Even with autopay active, you should review your bills to ensure charges are accurate
• Adjustment authority: You can typically modify or cancel automatic payments through your online account or by contacting customer service

One consideration with automatic payments is that your bill amount may vary month to month based on water usage. Unlike a fixed bill, your autopay amount might change seasonally—for example, summer months typically bring higher water bills due to outdoor watering, while winter usage may be lower. Before setting up autopay, understand that the withdrawal amount may fluctuate.

If your billing address or banking information changes, you'll need to update your automatic payment details. Failure to update this information could result in payment failures or missed payments, so notify NRH Water promptly of any address or banking changes.

Practical Takeaway: Start automatic payments using your bank account (ACH method) rather than a credit card, as ACH typically has no additional fees and helps your payment money go entirely toward your bill rather than toward processing charges.

In-Person and Phone Payment Options

For customers who prefer direct, immediate payment confirmation or who don't have internet access, NRH Water offers in-person payment at its customer service office. Paying in person means you hand over payment directly and receive a receipt on the spot, which provides tangible proof of payment. This method appeals to people who want to avoid digital transactions or who have concerns about online security.

The NRH Water customer service office is typically located at City Hall or a designated utility payment center in North Richland Hills. Office hours are generally Monday through Friday during standard business hours, though specific hours may vary seasonally or change based on city schedules. It's wise to confirm current office hours by calling ahead, as hours sometimes change for holidays or special events.

When paying in person, bring either your bill or your account number along with your payment method. Accepted payment methods at the office typically include:

• Cash
• Personal checks
• Money orders
• Debit cards
• Credit cards (though fees may apply)

Phone payments offer another option for customers who want to pay from home but prefer speaking with a representative. By calling NRH Water's customer service line, you can discuss your bill and arrange payment over the phone. During a phone payment, you'll provide your payment information to a customer service representative, who will process the transaction. Phone payments typically require providing banking information or card details, so ensure you're calling the official utility number and not a scam line.

Phone payment processing times are similar to online payments—usually 1-3 business days depending on the payment method. Request a confirmation number when paying by phone and write it down for your records. Some customers prefer phone payments because they allow for immediate questions about their bill or account.

Practical Takeaway: If you prefer in-person or phone payments, contact NRH Water in advance to confirm office hours and acceptable payment methods, then plan your payment around the office schedule to avoid unnecessary trips or delays.

Mail Payment and Check Payment Processing

Mailing a check or money order remains a traditional payment method that some residents prefer. This approach requires no internet access, no phone call, and no in-person visit. You simply write a check, mail it to NRH Water, and the payment processes when the utility receives and deposits it. For people who maintain checkbooks and prefer paper documentation, mailing a payment provides a familiar, straightforward process.
