Identogo operates over 4,500 locations across the country, making their services widely available. These locations are typically found in retail spaces, government buildings, and service centers. The company specializes in live-scan fingerprinting, which is a digital method of capturing fingerprints. This technology differs from traditional ink fingerprinting because it creates digital records that can be transmitted electronically to the appropriate agencies.

When you visit an Identogo location, trained operators collect your fingerprints using electronic scanning equipment. The process is quick, usually taking between 10 and 15 minutes from arrival to completion. The digital images are then processed and submitted to the relevant government agencies or employers as requested. Understanding how Identogo operates helps you prepare for your visit and know what to expect during the appointment.

Different reasons exist for needing fingerprinting services. Some people need fingerprints for employment purposes, particularly in fields like healthcare, childcare, or law enforcement. Others may need them for professional licenses, volunteer positions, or international travel. Government agencies sometimes require fingerprint-based background checks for various permits and certifications. Knowing why you need the service helps you understand which documents to bring and where to direct your submission.

Takeaway: Identogo provides fingerprinting services through thousands of locations. Understanding their function and service model gives you a foundation for planning your appointment and knowing what to expect during your visit.

Finding Identogo Locations Near You

The first practical step in booking an Identogo appointment involves locating a service center near your home, workplace, or another convenient location. Identogo maintains a location finder tool on their official website that allows you to search by zip code, city, or state. This tool shows you all nearby centers, their addresses, hours of operation, and available appointment times.

To use the location finder, visit the Identogo website and enter your zip code or city name. The search results display multiple locations with information about each one. You can see details such as whether they offer walk-in services, their typical wait times, and the specific services available at each location. Some centers specialize in certain types of fingerprinting, so checking these details helps you choose the most appropriate location for your needs.

Many Identogo locations operate extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. This scheduling flexibility makes it easier to find appointment times that work with your existing commitments. Some centers are located in retail environments like pharmacies or check-cashing stores, while others operate in standalone facilities or government buildings. Proximity and convenience should guide your location selection.

When reviewing location options, consider several factors. Distance and travel time matter, especially if you need to arrange transportation. Parking availability is another practical consideration. Some urban locations may have limited parking, while suburban and rural centers typically offer more accessible parking options. Hours of operation vary by location, so verify that the center you choose has availability that matches your schedule. Reading customer reviews about wait times can also help you choose a location known for efficiency.

Takeaway: Use Identogo's online location finder to identify nearby centers, compare their hours and services, and select a location that fits your schedule and circumstances.

Preparing Your Required Documents and Information

Before you visit an Identogo center, you need to gather specific documents and information. Having these materials prepared prevents delays and ensures your appointment proceeds smoothly. The documentation requirements may vary depending on the type of fingerprinting you need and the organization requesting the service, but certain documents are almost universally required.

A valid government-issued photo identification is required at every Identogo appointment. Acceptable forms of ID include a driver's license, passport, state identification card, military ID, or tribal identification. The ID must be current or expired for no more than a few years. Having your ID ready prevents delays when you arrive. If your name has changed since your ID was issued, bring documentation of the name change, such as a marriage certificate or court order.

You should also bring any paperwork related to your fingerprinting request. If an employer or government agency sent you to Identogo, bring their authorization form or request letter. This documentation helps the Identogo operator submit your prints to the correct organization. If you're unsure about what forms you need, contact the organization requesting the fingerprints or call your local Identogo center before your appointment.

Additional information to have available includes your complete legal name, date of birth, current address, and Social Security number. Bring contact information for the organization requesting the fingerprints, if applicable. If you have specific instructions about how your fingerprints should be submitted or which agency should receive them, write these details down and bring them to your appointment. Some people need fingerprints submitted to multiple organizations, so clarifying this beforehand ensures correct processing.

Payment information should also be prepared. Identogo accepts various payment methods including credit cards, debit cards, and sometimes cash or checks, depending on the location. Prices vary but typically range from $15 to $50 depending on the type of service and your location. Calling ahead to confirm the exact cost and accepted payment methods prevents surprises on the day of your appointment.

Takeaway: Gather your government-issued photo ID, any authorization forms from the requesting organization, and payment information before your appointment to ensure a smooth process.
