How to Watch the Today Show Live

Understanding Today Show Broadcasting Basics

The Today Show is a morning news and entertainment program that has been broadcast on NBC since 1952. The show airs live from Studio 6A at NBC's headquarters in Rockefeller Center in New York City. Understanding the basic broadcasting schedule helps you know when and where to find the program.

The show typically runs from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM Eastern Time on weekdays, with extended weekend editions. The program features a mix of breaking news, weather updates, human interest stories, celebrity interviews, and lifestyle segments. Each morning begins with the top news stories of the day, followed by weather forecasts for different regions across the United States.

The show's format includes various segments throughout the three-hour window. The first hour tends to focus heavily on news and current events. The second hour shifts toward more lifestyle and entertainment content, including cooking segments, fashion features, and celebrity interviews. The third hour often includes games, contests, and lighter human interest stories.

The production team includes anchors, reporters, meteorologists, producers, and technical staff who work together to create a live broadcast. The show goes on air regardless of circumstances, so you'll see the program continue even during breaking news events or unexpected situations in the studio.

Practical takeaway: Knowing the three-hour structure and time zones helps you plan when to tune in for specific content types—news-focused early morning or entertainment-focused mid-morning hours.

Watching Live on Your Television Set

The most straightforward way to watch the Today Show is through your television set on NBC. To locate the NBC channel on your television, check your cable, satellite, or streaming subscription channel lineup. NBC is typically found in the 4-10 range on most cable systems, though this varies by provider and location.

If you receive your television signal through a television antenna rather than a cable or satellite subscription, NBC is available as a broadcast network in most markets. To find NBC through an antenna, you can run an automatic channel scan on your television set, which will locate available broadcast channels in your area. The process varies by television model, so consulting your television's manual may be necessary.

For cable subscribers, the standard NBC channel carries the full three-hour broadcast. Your cable provider's program guide or on-screen menu will show you the exact start time for your time zone. If you have a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) through your cable or satellite provider, you can set it to record the Today Show on a one-time basis or as a recurring daily recording.

Satellite television subscribers should find NBC listed in their channel guide. Subscribers to services like DIRECTV and Dish Network can locate NBC through their interactive program guide and set recordings just as cable DVR users do. The channel number varies by provider and region.

For those with streaming television services that include live NBC feeds, such as YouTube TV, Hulu Live, or Sling TV, you can stream the Today Show through their platforms using the NBC channel available in your package. These services allow you to watch live and may include cloud-based recording options.

Practical takeaway: Check your specific provider's channel lineup or run an antenna scan to locate NBC in your area, then set a reminder or DVR recording for 7:00 AM Eastern Time on weekday mornings.

Streaming the Today Show Online

NBC offers online streaming of the Today Show through multiple platforms. The official NBC website (nbc.com) provides a live stream of the program during broadcast hours. To watch through the website, simply visit nbc.com, look for the Today Show link or section, and select the live stream option. You may need to sign in with a television provider account to verify that you have a subscription that includes NBC access.

The NBC mobile app, available on iOS and Android devices, also streams the Today Show live during broadcast hours. Download the app from your device's app store, open it, and look for the live stream or Today Show option. Like the website, you typically need to sign in with your TV provider credentials to watch the full broadcast.

Peacock, NBC's streaming service, offers Today Show content including the ability to watch episodes and clips. Peacock operates on a freemium model, meaning some content is available to free subscribers while additional content requires a paid subscription. Check the Peacock app or website to see what Today Show programming is currently available under your subscription level.

Third-party streaming services mentioned earlier—YouTube TV, Hulu Live, and Sling TV—provide live NBC feeds as part of their television packages. Sign in to your account with these services and select NBC from the channel guide to watch the live broadcast. Each service may have slightly different interface designs, but the basic process remains similar.

When streaming through any platform, ensure you have a stable internet connection. A connection speed of at least 5-8 Mbps is recommended for smooth HD streaming. If you experience buffering or interruptions, you can often switch to a lower video quality setting to improve playback stability.

Practical takeaway: Create accounts with NBC.com or the NBC app and sign in with your TV provider information to access the live stream from your computer, tablet, or phone during broadcast hours.

Using Social Media and Other Platforms

NBC maintains active social media accounts for the Today Show across multiple platforms. On platforms like YouTube, NBC posts clips from the day's broadcast, extended interviews, and compilations of popular segments. While these are not live streams, they allow you to watch significant portions of the show on-demand shortly after the broadcast ends.

The Today Show's official YouTube channel (@todayshow) uploads new content throughout the day. Subscribe to the channel to receive notifications when new segments are posted. You can watch individual interviews, weather segments, or cooking demonstrations without watching the entire three-hour broadcast.

The show's social media accounts on X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok share behind-the-scenes content, announcements about upcoming segments, and links to video clips. While these platforms don't host live streams, they provide information about what's coming up on the show and allow you to connect with the Today Show community.

Some local NBC affiliates in various markets may stream the Today Show through their own websites or apps. If you're in a specific region, checking your local NBC station's website might reveal additional streaming options.

For those interested in watching past episodes or specific segments, NBC's on-demand services store Today Show content for later viewing. The NBC.com website maintains an archive of recent episodes and segments that you can watch at any time.

Practical takeaway: Follow the Today Show's official YouTube and social media accounts to catch individual segments and highlights if you miss the live broadcast or want to rewatch specific interviews or features.

Dealing with Time Zone Differences

The Today Show broadcasts live from New York, meaning the official broadcast time is Eastern Time. If you live outside the Eastern Time zone, you'll need to convert the broadcast time to your local time. The show begins at 7:00 AM ET, which translates to 6:00 AM Central Time, 5:00 AM Mountain Time, and 4:00 AM Pacific Time.

Many people outside the Eastern Time zone find it impractical to wake up at these early hours. For viewers in these regions, recording the broadcast or watching on-demand later in the day is often a better option. Most cable and satellite DVRs automatically adjust to your local time zone, so when you set a recording for "7:00 AM Today Show," the system handles the conversion based on your location.

If you're using an online streaming service, the platform typically detects your location and may display times in your local zone. However, the live broadcast itself occurs at the Eastern Time broadcast time. Streaming services often make the broadcast available on-demand shortly after it airs on the East Coast, allowing West Coast viewers to watch in the morning at a reasonable time.

International viewers should note their time zone difference from Eastern Time. For example, someone in London would need to add 5 hours to the Eastern Time broadcast (7:00 AM ET becomes 12:00 PM GMT). Those in Australia or Asia face even greater time differences, often making real-time viewing very early in the morning or impossible without recording for later watching.

Some streaming services offer reruns of the Today Show later in the day, providing another option for those unable to watch the live broadcast. Checking your local NBC station's broadcast schedule may
