How to Set Up Solitaire on Your Computer or Phone

Understanding Solitaire and Where to Find It

Solitaire is a card game played by one person, making it a popular pastime for computers and phones around the world. The game involves arranging cards in specific patterns and sequences, using strategy and sometimes luck to complete the layout. Unlike games that require multiple players, solitaire can be played anytime you have a device available, whether that's during a lunch break, while traveling, or in the evening at home.

Most computers and phones come with solitaire already built in, meaning you don't need to look elsewhere to play. On Windows computers, the game has been included as a standard program for decades. Apple computers also include solitaire options. Similarly, phones running Android or iOS typically have solitaire options available through their app stores or pre-installed applications. This makes solitaire one of the most accessible games available today.

The traditional version of solitaire involves a single deck of 52 cards. Players work through the deck by moving cards between different piles according to specific rules. The goal is usually to arrange all cards into four piles, one for each suit, in order from ace to king. Different variations of solitaire exist with different rules and difficulty levels, so you can choose a version that matches your preference.

Before you begin looking for solitaire on your device, consider what type of solitaire you want to play. Some people prefer the classic version they remember from years ago, while others enjoy newer variations with different rules and challenges. Understanding what you're looking for will help you find the right version for your needs.

Takeaway: Solitaire is likely already on your device. Check your computer's built-in programs or your phone's app store before looking elsewhere, as free versions are typically available without any cost.

Finding and Opening Solitaire on Windows Computers

Windows computers have included solitaire for many years, and the process for finding it depends on which version of Windows you're using. For newer versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11, solitaire is available through the Microsoft Store and may already be installed on your system. These modern versions include several variations of solitaire, not just the classic game, giving you options to explore different styles.

On these systems, you can access solitaire by clicking Start, then looking in the Games folder. The solitaire program may be listed there. Alternatively, you can search for "solitaire" using the search function built into your Windows menu.

Once solitaire opens, you'll see a virtual card table displayed on your screen. The layout shows different areas where cards can be placed. Apple's Mac computers don't include solitaire as a built-in program in the same way Windows does, but the game is readily available through the App Store. The App Store is Apple's official marketplace for applications, and solitaire appears there as a free option.
