PGW offers multiple ways for customers to get in touch, including phone lines, online portals, mail, and in-person visits. Each contact method serves different purposes and works better for different situations. For example, if you have an emergency like a gas leak, you'll want to use the phone number for immediate assistance. If you want to check your bill or make a payment, the online account portal or phone lines may work better. Knowing which method to use can save you time and help you resolve issues more efficiently.

The company also has different departments and lines depending on what you need. Some calls go to billing questions, while others handle service requests or account changes. Having information about these different departments before you call means you can reach the right person faster and avoid being transferred multiple times.

This guide describes the various ways you can contact PGW, what information you'll typically need on hand, and what to expect during different types of interactions. Whether you're a new customer setting up service or an existing customer with a question, this information will help you navigate your options.

Takeaway: PGW provides several contact methods for different situations—knowing which one to use based on your needs will help you get answers and resolve issues more efficiently.

Telephone Contact Information and How to Use It

The main customer service phone number for Philadelphia Gas Works is 215-235-1212. This number works for most customer inquiries, including questions about billing, payment options, account information, and general service questions. The line is staffed during business hours, typically Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., though hours may vary seasonally or change without notice. When calling during these times, you can speak with a representative who can answer questions and make changes to your account.

If you need to report a gas emergency—such as a suspected gas leak, a strong smell of gas, or gas-related safety concerns—you should call the emergency line at 215-235-1500. This line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Emergency situations require immediate attention, and trained staff members are ready to help at any time. Do not attempt to fix a gas leak yourself. If you suspect a gas emergency, evacuate the area, move to fresh air, and call the emergency number right away.

Before you call either number, have the following information available: your account number (found on your bill), your service address, your phone number, and details about your question or issue. This information helps the representative locate your account quickly and provide accurate information. If you're calling about a billing issue, have your recent bill available so you can reference specific charges or dates.

When you call, you may reach an automated system first that asks you to select options or enter information. Listen carefully to the menu options and choose the one closest to your need. Some questions can be answered by the automated system without speaking to a person. If you need to reach a representative, wait for the option to speak with someone or press the appropriate number to continue.

Takeaway: Keep the main customer service number (215-235-1212) and emergency number (215-235-1500) handy, and have your account information ready when you call to get faster service.

Online Account Management and Digital Contact Methods

PGW offers an online customer portal where you can manage many aspects of your account without calling or visiting in person. To access this portal, visit the Philadelphia Gas Works website and look for a link labeled "Pay My Bill," "My Account," or similar language. You'll need to create an account using your email address and a password of your choice. Once you've set up your online account, you can log in anytime to view your bill, make payments, and access other account information.

Through the online portal, you can see your current bill amount, payment history, and usage information. Many customers find this useful for tracking their gas usage over time or understanding how their bill changes with the seasons. You can also see when your next payment is due and set up payment reminders. The portal typically allows you to make one-time payments or set up automatic recurring payments from a bank account or debit card.

If you don't want to use the online portal, PGW also accepts payments by phone through their automated payment system. You can call 215-235-1212 during business hours to make a payment over the phone. You'll need your account number and payment information ready. Some customers prefer phone payments because they can speak with someone if they have questions, while others prefer the online method because it's available 24 hours a day.

For non-emergency questions that don't require immediate attention, you can also reach out through mail or email if PGW provides these options on their website. Email may take longer to receive a response than a phone call, but it creates a written record of your communication. Before sending an email, check the PGW website to find the correct email address for your type of question, as different departments may have different addresses.

Takeaway: The online portal offers convenience for bill viewing and payments available anytime, while phone and mail options work for other types of questions or if you prefer speaking with someone directly.

In-Person Service Centers and Physical Locations

Philadelphia Gas Works maintains service centers where you can visit in person to handle account matters, ask questions, or make payments. The main customer service center is located at 1500 Cherry Street in Philadelphia. This location is open during standard business hours, typically Monday through Friday. Visiting in person can be useful if you prefer face-to-face communication or if you need to handle multiple account matters at once.

When you visit a service center, you may need to wait your turn, similar to other utility companies or government offices. Bringing your account number and any relevant documents—such as your bill or payment information—will help speed up your visit. The staff at these locations can answer questions about your bill, discuss payment options, help with account changes, and provide information about service requests or repairs.

Before traveling to a service center, you might want to call ahead using the main customer service number (215-235-1212) to ask about wait times or to confirm that the location is open on that day. This can save you a trip if there's a holiday or unexpected closure. You can also ask whether your specific question needs to be handled in person or if it can be resolved by phone or online, which might be faster.

If you cannot visit during regular business hours due to work or other commitments, the online portal and phone payment options may be more practical for you. However, for certain services like starting new service, discussing complex account issues, or handling matters related to property changes, an in-person visit might be necessary or more efficient than other methods.

Takeaway: Physical service centers offer face-to-face service for customers who prefer that option, but calling ahead about wait times and confirming your question can be handled in person will make your visit more productive.

Information You'll Need and How to Prepare Before Contacting PGW

Having the right information before you contact PGW will make your interaction faster and more productive. The most important piece of information is your account number, which appears on your monthly bill. This number identifies your account in PGW's system and allows the representative to pull up your information immediately. If you can't find your bill, you can usually look up your account number on the online portal if you've already created an account there.

You should also have your service address ready, since PGW may need to confirm which property your account is associated with. This is especially important if you've recently moved or if you're calling about a property you own but don't live in. Additionally, have your phone number available, as it may be used to verify your identity and contact you if necessary.

The type of information you'll need depends on why you're calling. If you're asking about a specific charge on your bill, have that bill available so you can reference the charge amount and date. If you're requesting a service appointment for repairs or maintenance, be ready to describe the issue or problem you're experiencing. If you're calling about payment options or billing questions, knowing your current balance and payment history is helpful.
