How to Cancel Your LA Fitness Membership Online

Understanding LA Fitness Membership Cancellation Policies

LA Fitness operates one of the largest gym chains in the United States, with over 700 locations across the country. Before you cancel your membership, it's important to understand how their cancellation policies work. LA Fitness memberships typically fall into different categories based on when you joined and what type of contract you signed.

Most LA Fitness memberships are month-to-month after an initial commitment period. If you signed up recently, you may be in a contract that requires you to pay for a set number of months before cancellation. These initial commitment periods commonly range from one to two years, though some promotional offers may have different terms. The specific terms of your membership depend on the contract you signed when you joined.

LA Fitness requires members to provide written notice of cancellation. The company has specific procedures for this, and following these procedures correctly matters for making sure your cancellation processes without problems. Some members attempt to cancel through phone calls or in person, but the official method through their website or app provides documentation that your cancellation was submitted.

Cancellation fees may apply depending on your membership stage. If you're still in your commitment period, you may owe an early termination fee. This fee varies by location and membership type but can range from $50 to several hundred dollars. Understanding whether you'll owe fees before you cancel helps you make an informed decision about timing.

Practical takeaway: Review your membership agreement or recent billing statements to identify your commitment end date and any potential cancellation fees. This information determines your options and costs.

Preparing to Cancel Your Membership Online

Before you start the cancellation process, gather specific information about your account. You'll need your LA Fitness member ID number, which appears on your membership card, billing statements, or gym receipts. You should also have your account password ready, as you'll need to log into your member account on the LA Fitness website or mobile app.

Check your most recent billing statement to confirm the membership type you have and your current billing date. This information helps you understand what you might owe and when your cancellation becomes effective. Your statement also shows whether you're enrolled in any additional services beyond your basic membership, such as personal training packages or premium app features.

Consider the timing of your cancellation carefully. LA Fitness typically processes cancellations based on when they receive your request and your membership's billing cycle. If you submit a cancellation request on the 15th of the month but your billing date is the 20th, you may be charged for the next month depending on their specific policies. Submitting your request before your next billing date helps prevent unexpected charges.

Document your decision by taking screenshots of your membership details before cancellation. This creates a record of your membership status, billing information, and any fees you owe. These screenshots prove what your membership terms were if you need to reference this information later.

If you have an outstanding balance on your account, you'll need to address this before or during cancellation. This might include overdue charges, personal training packages you've purchased, or other services. Contact LA Fitness to understand your balance before proceeding.

Practical takeaway: Compile your member ID, account password, recent billing statement, and membership agreement before starting the cancellation process. Having this information organized saves time and reduces errors.

Step-by-Step Online Cancellation Process

The LA Fitness website provides a member portal where you can manage your account and request cancellation. Start by visiting the LA Fitness website and locating the member login section. You'll typically find this near the top of the homepage or in the main navigation menu. Enter your email address or member ID and your password to log into your account.

Once logged in, look for account settings or membership management options. The exact location varies depending on the website layout, but these options usually appear in your account profile or member dashboard. Some versions of the site organize this under "Account Settings," while others may label it "Manage Membership" or "Membership Details." Spend a moment exploring the menu to locate the right section.

Within your membership settings, you should find an option to request cancellation or view cancellation options. Click on this option to view your membership details and any associated fees. The system will typically display your commitment end date, any early termination fees you may owe, and your current billing status.

Follow the prompts to request your cancellation. LA Fitness may ask why you're canceling—this feedback helps them understand member concerns but doesn't prevent your cancellation. Select your reason from the available options. You'll also confirm your effective cancellation date, which is usually the next billing date after your request processes.

Review all information carefully before submitting your cancellation request. Confirm your member ID, the cancellation date, and any fees displayed. Once you submit, the website should display a confirmation message with a cancellation request number or reference code. Save this confirmation information.

Practical takeaway: Write down or screenshot your cancellation confirmation number and the date you submitted your request. Keep this documentation for your records in case you need to follow up.

Using the LA Fitness Mobile App for Cancellation

The LA Fitness mobile app offers another way to cancel your membership online. If you have the app installed on your phone or tablet, open it and log in with your credentials. The app provides a streamlined interface for managing your membership from your mobile device.

Within the app, locate your account or profile section. This usually appears as a menu icon, profile picture, or account settings option. The exact placement depends on the app's design, but it's typically accessible from the main screen. Tap on your profile or account settings to view your membership information.

The app should display your current membership status, billing information, and available actions. Look for an option related to canceling your membership or managing your account. This might be labeled as "Cancel Membership," "Manage My Plan," or similar language. Tap this option to proceed.

The app will walk you through a cancellation process similar to the website. You'll review your membership details, see any applicable fees, and confirm your cancellation request. The app may also ask for feedback about your experience with LA Fitness. Complete these steps and submit your cancellation request through the app.

After submission, the app should display a confirmation with a reference number and cancellation date. Take a screenshot of this confirmation screen as proof of your request. This documentation helps if LA Fitness doesn't process your cancellation correctly or if you need to reference your cancellation date.

Some members find the app easier to use than the website because it's designed specifically for mobile use. If you have trouble accessing cancellation options on the website, the app may provide a more straightforward path.

Practical takeaway: If you're more comfortable using mobile apps, download or open the LA Fitness app and navigate to your account settings to find the cancellation option. Screenshot your confirmation for your records.

What Happens After You Submit Your Cancellation Request

After you submit your cancellation request online, LA Fitness processes it according to their standard procedures. The cancellation typically becomes effective on your next billing date, though some memberships may process differently. The company should send you a confirmation email to the address associated with your account. Check your email inbox and spam folder for this confirmation within 24 to 48 hours.

If you owe any early termination fees or have an outstanding balance, LA Fitness will charge these to your payment method on file before or with your final billing. Review your email confirmation to see what final charges, if any, you should expect. These charges typically appear within a few billing cycles.

Your access to the gym should continue until your cancellation effective date. After that date, your membership card will no longer grant you entry to LA Fitness locations. If you visit the gym after your cancellation date and your card is declined, contact LA Fitness to confirm your cancellation processed correctly.

It can take several days for your cancellation to fully process through LA Fitness's system. During this time, you may still see pending charges on your account or receive reminder notifications about your membership. These notifications typically stop once the cancellation completes. If you continue receiving charges after your stated cancellation date, contact LA Fitness to investigate.

LA Fitness may send you promotional offers to rejoin after your cancellation. These emails show that your cancellation was successful—the company typically only sends reactivation
