How to Cancel Your Crunchyroll Subscription Guide

Understanding Crunchyroll Subscription Types and Cancellation Options

Crunchyroll offers several subscription tiers, and understanding which one you have is the first step toward cancellation. The service provides a free ad-supported tier, a Standard plan at $11.99 per month, a Standard+ plan at $14.99 per month, and a Premium plan at $14.99 per month. Each tier comes with different features, such as video quality, number of simultaneous streams, and ad presence. Some users also have older subscription plans that are no longer offered to new subscribers but remain available to existing members.

The cancellation process varies slightly depending on whether you subscribed through the Crunchyroll website directly, through a mobile app, or through a third-party service like Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Amazon Prime Video. Direct subscriptions through Crunchyroll's website are canceled one way, while app-based subscriptions may require cancellation through that specific platform. This distinction matters because attempting to cancel through the wrong method could result in your subscription continuing to charge you.

Before you cancel, consider whether you want to pause your membership instead. Crunchyroll allows users to pause their subscription for up to three months without canceling entirely. This option preserves your watchlist, preferences, and account history while stopping charges temporarily. If you think you might return to the service, pausing could be a middle ground between staying subscribed and fully canceling.

Your subscription status affects your account access immediately upon cancellation. Once canceled, you lose access to premium features right away, though the timing depends on your subscription cycle. If you paid monthly, you typically retain access through the end of your current billing period. If you paid for an annual plan, you keep access until that year concludes, assuming you don't request a refund.

Practical takeaway: Log into your Crunchyroll account and navigate to your account settings to verify which subscription type you have and how you're being charged before proceeding with cancellation.

Canceling a Direct Crunchyroll Website Subscription

If you created your Crunchyroll account directly through the Crunchyroll website and pay them directly, this is the most straightforward cancellation method. Start by visiting the Crunchyroll website and logging into your account using your email address and password. Once logged in, locate the account settings menu, typically found in the upper right corner of the screen by clicking your profile icon or a menu button labeled "Account."

Within your account settings, look for a section labeled "Membership" or "Subscription." This section displays your current plan, renewal date, and billing information. You should see your payment method on file and the date your next charge will occur. Crunchyroll also displays how many days remain in your current billing cycle. Read this information carefully before proceeding, as it confirms what access you'll retain after cancellation.

Find the option to cancel or manage your subscription, usually presented as a button or link that says "Cancel Subscription" or "Manage Membership." Click this option and you'll typically see a confirmation screen asking why you're leaving. Crunchyroll may present options to pause instead of cancel, or offer a discounted rate to keep you subscribed. You can proceed with cancellation by confirming your choice, usually through a final confirmation button.

After cancellation, Crunchyroll sends a confirmation email to the address associated with your account. This email serves as proof of cancellation and typically arrives within minutes. Keep this email for your records. Check your account settings again to verify that your subscription status now shows "Canceled" or similar language. Your account remains active through the end of your current billing period, after which you can still access any saved watchlist or preferences by logging back in, though you won't be able to stream premium content.

Practical takeaway: After canceling, take a screenshot of your account settings page showing "Canceled" status as documentation. Save the confirmation email in a folder for future reference in case billing disputes arise.

Canceling Subscriptions Purchased Through Mobile Apps

Many users subscribe to Crunchyroll through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on their mobile devices. This method is common because subscription options appear directly within the app, but cancellation must occur through that same platform, not through Crunchyroll's website. Attempting to cancel through the Crunchyroll website while subscribed through an app won't work because Crunchyroll doesn't process that payment—Apple or Google does.

For Apple App Store subscriptions, open the Settings app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac device. Navigate to your profile by selecting your name at the top of the screen. Choose "Subscriptions" and locate Crunchyroll in the list of active subscriptions. Tap Crunchyroll and select "Cancel Subscription." Apple presents a cancellation screen with options to reconsider, often offering discounts or temporary free trials. You can proceed through these prompts to complete cancellation. Apple sends a confirmation email within minutes, and your subscription stops at the end of the current billing period.

For Google Play Store subscriptions on Android devices, open the Google Play app and tap your profile icon in the upper right corner. Navigate to "Payments and subscriptions" then "Subscriptions." Find Crunchyroll and tap it to open the subscription details page. Select "Cancel subscription" and Google shows you the cancellation confirmation date and final charge date. Complete the cancellation by confirming your choice. Google sends a confirmation email, and your access continues through the end of your current billing cycle.

One important note: canceling through these platforms means the service stops charging your payment method immediately, but your Crunchyroll account remains active with your watchlist and preferences intact. You can resubscribe later and your account history remains unchanged. Some users find value in keeping their account active even after canceling because they can still access Crunchyroll's free ad-supported tier to browse content. This approach lets you maintain your account without paying.

Practical takeaway: If you use multiple devices (phone and tablet), verify which payment platform each is linked to, as you may need to cancel through different apps for each device.

Canceling Amazon Prime Video Channel and Other Third-Party Subscriptions

Some users subscribe to Crunchyroll through Amazon Prime Video's add-on channels feature rather than directly from Crunchyroll. With this setup, charges appear on your Amazon bill, not as a separate Crunchyroll charge. Canceling this type of subscription differs from the methods above because it goes through Amazon instead. Open Amazon Prime Video on any device or through your Amazon account on a web browser. Navigate to "Account" or "Your Account" settings, then find the section for "Manage Your Prime Video Channels" or "Subscriptions."

Locate Crunchyroll in your list of active add-on channels and click on it. Select the option to cancel the channel subscription, and Amazon asks you to confirm the cancellation. You'll see your final billing date—typically within days, depending on your current billing cycle. Amazon sends a confirmation email once the cancellation processes. Your Crunchyroll access through Prime Video stops at the end of your current billing period, and the charges disappear from future Amazon bills.

In some cases, users may have subscribed through other platforms like Roku Channel or other streaming aggregators. For these services, access the subscription management section within that platform's app or website, find Crunchyroll, and select cancel. The same principle applies: cancellation occurs where you subscribed, not through Crunchyroll's website. The confirmation process differs slightly for each platform, but each sends a confirmation once complete.

An important consideration: if you subscribed to Crunchyroll through multiple platforms, you have multiple active subscriptions that charge separately. For example, you might have a direct Crunchyroll subscription and also an Amazon Prime Video add-on channel. Canceling one doesn't affect the other. Review all the accounts where you might subscribe—your email address may have multiple Crunchyroll accounts across different platforms. Check your recent credit card or bank statements to identify all active subscriptions charging you, then cancel each one individually through its respective platform.

Practical takeaway: Review your last three months of bank or credit card statements, searching for all Crunchyroll charges, to identify every platform through which you subscribe before canceling.
