How to Cancel Paramount Plus on Roku

Understanding Paramount Plus on Roku Devices

Paramount Plus is a streaming service owned by Paramount Global that offers movies, television shows, live sports, and original content. The service became widely available in 2021 and has grown to include over 20,000 titles across various genres. On Roku devices—which are streaming media players that connect to televisions—Paramount Plus appears as an installable channel that users can add to their home screen.

Roku devices have become increasingly popular for streaming content, with Roku reporting over 80 million active accounts as of recent data. The platform supports hundreds of channels, with Paramount Plus being one of the major streaming options available. When you add Paramount Plus to your Roku device, you're essentially installing an application that connects to your Paramount Plus account through your internet connection.

Understanding how the service is structured on your Roku device matters when you decide to cancel. The Paramount Plus channel on Roku functions as a gateway to your subscription—it's not the subscription itself. Your actual subscription is managed through Paramount Plus's billing system, which operates separately from Roku's infrastructure. This distinction is important because canceling the channel from your Roku device does not automatically cancel your subscription or stop future charges from appearing on your billing method.

Many users mistakenly believe that removing the Paramount Plus channel from their Roku home screen cancels their subscription. In reality, removing the channel simply uninstalls the application from the device. Your subscription continues, and you continue to be charged monthly unless you take additional steps to cancel through Paramount Plus's account settings.

Practical Takeaway: Before attempting to cancel, recognize that your Paramount Plus subscription exists independently of the Roku channel. You must cancel through Paramount Plus's website or account settings, not through your Roku device alone.

How to Cancel Paramount Plus Through the Official Website

The most straightforward method for canceling Paramount Plus involves using a web browser to access your account on Paramount Plus's official website. This process can be completed on any device with internet access—a computer, smartphone, or tablet. By handling the cancellation through the website, you have a clear record of your request and can confirm the cancellation status directly.

To begin, navigate to the official Paramount Plus website (paramountplus.com) and sign in using the email address and password associated with your account. Once logged in, look for account settings or profile options, typically found in a menu accessed by clicking on your profile picture or account name in the upper right corner of the screen. Within these settings, you should find subscription information or billing details.

After locating your subscription information, look for an option labeled "Manage Subscription," "Subscription Settings," "Billing," or "Cancel Subscription." The exact wording may vary depending on when Paramount Plus last updated its interface, but the function remains consistent. Click on this option to view your current subscription status, including when your next billing date occurs and what subscription tier you maintain.

When you select the option to cancel, Paramount Plus typically presents a series of screens asking you to confirm your decision. The service may offer discounts or promotional rates to encourage you to maintain your subscription. If you choose to proceed with cancellation, you will usually be asked to select a reason for canceling from a dropdown menu. This information helps Paramount Plus understand why users leave the service, though providing a reason is not required to complete the cancellation.

After confirming your cancellation, you should receive an email confirmation at the address associated with your account. Keep this email for your records. Most subscriptions are canceled immediately upon confirmation, though you typically retain access until the end of your current billing period. This means if you cancel mid-month after being charged, you can still use Paramount Plus until your next billing date would have occurred.

Practical Takeaway: Visit paramountplus.com, sign in to your account, navigate to subscription settings, and confirm your cancellation through the website. Retain the confirmation email for your records.

Canceling Through the Roku Channel Subscription Manager

An alternative cancellation method exists if you originally subscribed to Paramount Plus directly through your Roku device using Roku's channel subscription system. This applies specifically to users who chose to purchase their Paramount Plus subscription through Roku rather than signing up directly with Paramount Plus. If you used this method, you can manage your subscription through Roku's account settings rather than through Paramount Plus's website, though the outcome is identical—your subscription will be canceled.

To cancel a Paramount Plus subscription managed through Roku, begin by accessing your Roku account settings. On your Roku device, go to Settings (usually found on the home screen menu), then select "Accounts & Sign-in" or similar wording depending on your Roku model. From there, look for an option related to subscriptions, payments, or "Manage Subscriptions."

Once in the subscriptions section, you should see a list of active subscriptions you've purchased through Roku. Locate Paramount Plus in this list and select it. An option to cancel should appear; select it and confirm your cancellation request. Similar to canceling through the Paramount Plus website, you will receive a confirmation, and your access typically continues until the current billing period ends.

Some users find this method convenient because it can be completed directly from the device where they watch Paramount Plus. However, this method only works if your subscription was originally purchased through Roku's payment system. If you created a Paramount Plus account independently and then installed the Paramount Plus channel on Roku, your subscription is not managed through Roku, and you must cancel through the Paramount Plus website instead.

You can determine which method applies to you by checking the email address where your subscription receipts are sent. If receipts come from Roku, your subscription is Roku-managed. If receipts come from Paramount Plus or Paramount, your subscription is managed directly with Paramount Plus.

Practical Takeaway: If you subscribed through Roku's system, you can cancel via your Roku device's subscription settings. Verify your subscription source by checking where billing receipts originate.

Understanding Cancellation Timing and Billing Cycles

When you cancel a Paramount Plus subscription, the timing of when you lose access depends on your billing cycle and when you cancel relative to your billing date. Paramount Plus typically does not issue refunds for unused portions of your current billing period. Understanding this policy helps you time your cancellation to minimize charges for unused service.

If you cancel before your next billing date, you retain full access to Paramount Plus until that date arrives. For example, if your monthly subscription renews on the 15th of each month and you cancel on the 1st, you can continue using the service until the 15th. On the 15th, you will not be charged for another month, and your access will end.

If you cancel after your next billing date has already passed, you have already been charged for another month of service. Paramount Plus's standard policy does not refund these charges. You then have access for the full month following your cancellation date. This is why timing matters—if your billing date is tomorrow and you haven't canceled yet, it may be worth waiting until after that date to ensure you've received the full month of service you were charged for.

Your specific billing date can be found in your account settings under subscription or billing information. Knowing this date helps you plan your cancellation strategically. Some users prefer to cancel on the day before their billing date to end their subscription with minimal wasted days. Others wait until after being charged one final time to ensure they receive that full month.

After cancellation, your account will display a cancellation confirmation with a specific date when your access ends. Keep track of this date. After it passes, attempting to use Paramount Plus on any device will require you to create a new subscription if you decide to return to the service later.

Practical Takeaway: Check your next billing date before canceling. Cancel after being charged if you want to use the service for a full final month, or before your next billing date to avoid additional charges.

Removing the Paramount Plus Channel From Your Roku Device

After canceling your Paramount Plus subscription, you may want to remove the Paramount Plus channel from your Roku device to clean up your home screen and free up storage space. While this step is optional—the channel can remain installed without active harm—many users prefer removing services they no longer use. The removal process is straightforward and takes only a moment.
