What the Ulta Black Friday Shopping Guide Covers

Ulta Beauty releases a Black Friday shopping guide each year to help customers understand what deals and promotions will be available during the holiday shopping season. This free informational resource outlines the types of products that typically go on sale, the discount ranges customers might encounter, and how Ulta's loyalty program members receive additional offers. The guide serves as an educational tool to help shoppers plan their purchases in advance rather than making rushed decisions during the sales period.

The guide generally includes information about past years' pricing patterns, product categories that historically receive discounts, and details about when sales typically begin and end. For example, Ulta has traditionally started Black Friday promotions in late November, with some deals beginning in early November as "early access" offers. The guide explains how different customer segments—such as Ultamate Rewards members—receive different promotional timing and discount levels.

One key section usually covers the range of brands participating in the sales. Ulta carries over 25,000 products from brands including MAC, Urban Decay, Dyson, Estée Lauder, NYX, and Revlon. The Black Friday guide typically indicates which brands have historically participated in the promotions and what types of products from those brands see reductions. This information helps customers identify which categories matter most to their shopping plans.

The guide also explains Ulta's structure around door-busters and featured items. Door-busters are heavily discounted items meant to drive store traffic and online visits. Featured items receive moderate discounts but represent popular products customers actively seek. Understanding this distinction helps shoppers prioritize which deals align with their actual needs versus impulse purchases.

Practical takeaway: Before Black Friday, review the guide to identify 3-5 products you genuinely need or want. This prevents overspending on items just because they're discounted and creates a shopping list to reference during the actual sales event.

How to Find and Access the Free Guide

Ulta Beauty makes its Black Friday shopping guide available through multiple channels, typically beginning in October or early November. The most direct method is visiting Ulta.com and looking for the Black Friday section, which usually appears prominently on the homepage during the promotional period. The guide is often presented as a downloadable PDF or an interactive online resource that customers can review without creating an account.

Customers can also find the guide by signing up for Ulta's email notifications. When you provide your email address on Ulta.com, you receive updates about upcoming sales, including Black Friday announcements. These emails typically include links to view the guide or describe the key Black Friday offerings. The email approach works well for people who want information pushed to them rather than searching the website.

Another way to access the information is through Ulta's mobile app, available on iOS and Android platforms. The app displays Black Friday content in a dedicated section once the promotional period approaches. App users sometimes receive early notifications about when the full guide will be released, giving them a heads-up before the official launch date.

Social media channels including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok also feature Black Friday guide information. Ulta posts preview content and highlights from the guide on these platforms, which can be helpful for visual learners who prefer seeing example products and pricing rather than reading text-based materials. Following Ulta's official accounts ensures you see this information as it's released.

In-store copies of printed Black Friday guides are typically available at Ulta locations starting in mid-November. If you prefer physical materials or want to browse while shopping, asking a store associate for a printed guide is an option. These printed versions contain the same core information as digital versions.

Practical takeaway: Sign up for Ulta's email list in September or October so you receive automatic notification when the Black Friday guide releases. This ensures you don't miss the promotional period and can plan your shopping strategy early.

Understanding Ulta's Loyalty Program Black Friday Benefits

Ulta's Ultamate Rewards program offers members tiered benefits during Black Friday that differ from standard customer offers. The program has three membership levels: standard members, Silver members (who spend $300-$749 annually), and Gold members (who spend $750 or more annually). The Black Friday guide explains what each tier receives in terms of early sale access, additional discounts, or exclusive products.

Historically, Ultamate Rewards members receive early access to Black Friday sales, sometimes starting 2-3 days before non-members can shop the same deals. This early access period varies year to year and is detailed in the guide. For example, in recent years, Gold members have received the earliest access (sometimes starting Tuesday of Black Friday week), followed by Silver members, then standard members. This timing allows loyal customers who spend more with Ulta to shop popular items before they sell out.

The guide also outlines how loyalty members earn points on Black Friday purchases. During regular shopping, Ultamate Rewards members earn points at rates ranging from 1 point per dollar spent to higher multipliers depending on product category and promotion. Some Black Friday promotions modify these point earnings—for instance, certain brands might offer double points during the Black Friday period. The guide clarifies these changes so members understand the total value they're receiving.

Additionally, members sometimes receive personalized offers based on their shopping history. If you frequently purchase skincare products, for example, Ulta may send you an email with Black Friday deals specific to skincare categories. The guide explains how this personalization works and encourages members to check their personalized offers section on the Ulta app or website.

Platinum members (those who have reached Gold status and continue spending) sometimes receive bonus perks such as special gift sets or additional discount codes during Black Friday. These benefits vary annually, and the official guide provides details about what Platinum members should expect in the current year's promotion.

Practical takeaway: If you're not yet a loyalty member, the Black Friday period is an opportune time to join. You can register for free online or in-store, and depending on when you join relative to the Black Friday promotion, you might be able to participate in the current year's sale benefits.

Types of Products and Discount Ranges Historical Patterns

Ulta Black Friday promotions typically span multiple product categories, and the guide provides information about which categories historically see the deepest discounts. Beauty tools and hair styling devices often receive significant reductions of 30-50% off. For instance, Dyson hair dryers and straighteners, which are premium-priced items starting around $300-$400, sometimes drop to $150-$250 during Black Friday. Revlon, Dyson, and GHD are brands that frequently feature in tool-focused promotions.

Makeup products generally receive moderate discounts ranging from 15-40% off regular prices. Popular items include eyeshadow palettes, lipstick sets, and foundation. Brands like MAC, Urban Decay, and Estée Lauder frequently participate with discounts on their signature products. A typical example: Urban Decay Naked palettes, which normally retail for $54, have historically been marked down to $35-$40 during Black Friday sales. Prestige makeup brands tend toward smaller percentage discounts compared to mass-market brands.

Skincare and fragrance products typically see 20-35% reductions. Luxury brands like Estée Lauder, Clinique, and Shiseido participate with both individual product discounts and gift set promotions. The gift set approach is particularly common—these bundles package several products together at a price lower than buying items individually. For example, a skincare set might include a cleanser, moisturizer, and serum valued at $120 but sold for $75-$80 during Black Friday.

The guide outlines "door-buster" items that receive the deepest discounts to attract shoppers. These loss-leader products might include popular brands at 40-50% off or free gifts with purchase of specific items. For instance, buying a certain foundation might include a free gift set worth $30-$50. These door-busters are typically limited in quantity, either in-store or online, which the guide explains to help customers understand why some deals sell out quickly.

Mass-market brands carried at Ulta, including Maybelline, NYX, and Wet n Wild, often see broader percentage discounts than prestige brands. These more affordable products might be marked down 25-50% because the lower regular prices still yield profit at deeper discounts. The guide
