The 2027 Honda Pilot builds on Honda's reputation for reliability and practicality. This generation continues the brand's focus on creating vehicles that balance passenger comfort, cargo space, and fuel efficiency. The Pilot typically seats up to eight passengers across three rows, making it suitable for larger families or those who frequently transport groups of people. The vehicle's design emphasizes both functionality and modern aesthetics, with updated styling that reflects current automotive design trends.

The 2027 model year brings refinements to engine performance, interior materials, and technological integration. Honda has invested in improving the overall driving experience through better suspension tuning, refined transmission behavior, and enhanced connectivity options. The Pilot competes in a crowded segment that includes vehicles like the Toyota Highlander, Mazda CX-9, and Kia Sorento, each offering different strengths and feature sets.

When researching the 2027 Pilot, you'll encounter various trim levels, each offering different combinations of features and pricing. Learning about these differences helps you understand what capabilities and amenities come with each version. This guide focuses on helping you understand the vehicle's main features and how they function, allowing you to compare the Pilot against other options in the market.

Practical Takeaway: Before diving into specific features, recognize that the 2027 Pilot is a three-row SUV designed for families and groups, offering a mix of practicality and modern technology. Start by considering whether a vehicle of this size and type matches your actual needs before examining detailed features.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy, and Drivetrain Options

The 2027 Honda Pilot uses a 3.5-liter V6 engine as its primary powerplant, producing approximately 280 to 290 horsepower depending on the specific trim level and transmission configuration. This engine provides adequate power for everyday driving, highway merging, and towing situations. The V6 configuration offers a balance between performance and fuel consumption that appeals to many SUV buyers who want responsive acceleration without extreme gas station visits.

Honda pairs this engine with either a traditional 10-speed automatic transmission or, on certain trim levels, an advanced hybrid system. The hybrid version combines a V6 engine with electric motors to improve fuel economy in various driving conditions. According to Honda's specifications, the non-hybrid 2027 Pilot achieves approximately 20-22 miles per gallon in the city and 27-29 miles per gallon on the highway, depending on whether all-wheel drive is selected. The hybrid variant improves these numbers by roughly 2-3 miles per gallon across both driving conditions.

All-wheel drive comes standard on higher trim levels and remains available on lower trims for an additional cost. The all-wheel drive system includes Real Time All-Wheel Drive (RT-AWD), which actively distributes power between the front and rear wheels based on driving conditions and traction needs. Front-wheel drive remains the standard configuration on base models and offers better fuel economy while still providing adequate traction for most drivers.

The Pilot's towing capacity reaches up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped, allowing owners to tow small trailers, boats, or utility trailers. This capacity places the Pilot in the middle range of its segment—some competitors offer higher capacities, while others fall short. The vehicle includes trailer stability control and engine braking features to assist when towing.

Fuel tank capacity measures 18.5 gallons across all trim levels, providing a realistic driving range of 380-500 miles depending on driving habits and conditions. This range typically allows for one to two days of driving between fuel stops for most owners. The use of regular unleaded gasoline (rather than premium) keeps fuel costs reasonable compared to luxury brands requiring premium fuel.

Practical Takeaway: The 2027 Pilot offers either a traditional V6 or a hybrid powertrain, with all-wheel drive available to improve traction. Choose based on your driving patterns: hybrid if you drive frequently in stop-and-go city conditions, traditional engine if you prioritize lower purchase price or prefer conventional mechanics.

Interior Space, Seating Configuration, and Cargo Capacity

The 2027 Honda Pilot provides seating for up to eight passengers across three distinct rows, though some owners configure certain trim levels with seven seats when the middle row features captain's chairs instead of a bench seat. This configuration offers different advantages depending on your needs. The bench seat in base trims provides maximum passenger capacity for occasional large groups, while captain's chairs in higher trims create distinct individual spaces and easier access to the third row.

The first row features front seats with available heating and ventilation functions on higher trim levels. Seat materials range from cloth on base models to leather on upper trims, with some premium trims offering semi-aniline leather with enhanced durability. Seat adjustments include power lumbar support on mid-range and higher trims, allowing individual customization of lower back support. The driver's seat typically offers 10-way power adjustment, while the front passenger seat comes with 8-way power adjustment on trims offering this feature.

Second-row seats slide forward and backward along a track system, accommodating different passenger and cargo needs. When the second row is positioned forward, more third-row legroom becomes available for rear passengers. When slid backward, the second row provides more knee and legroom for middle passengers while reducing third-row accessibility. A fold-flat feature on second-row seats allows quick conversion to cargo mode for larger items that require full floor space.

Third-row seating suits adults on shorter drives and children for extended trips, with approximately 28-30 inches of legroom depending on second-row position. Entry and exit to the third row improved in recent Honda Pilot redesigns, with easier step-through from the second row and better headroom in this area. The third row folds completely flat into the floor to create a truly spacious cargo area.

Total cargo capacity measures 18.0 cubic feet with all three rows occupied, expanding to 55.3 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded, and reaching 109.3 cubic feet with only the front row occupied. These figures place the Pilot near the top of its class for maximum cargo space. Real-world examples include carrying a full set of camping gear for four people, multiple large suitcases for a family vacation, or construction materials for home improvement projects. The power tailgate on higher trims opens and closes automatically, useful when hands are full with cargo or shopping bags.

Practical Takeaway: The 2027 Pilot truly shines in families needing flexible seating and cargo arrangements. If you regularly carry maximum passengers and cargo simultaneously, measure your typical needs against these specifications before purchase.

Technology Features and Infotainment Systems

The 2027 Honda Pilot incorporates a digital infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen on base models and a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen on higher trims. Both sizes support smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing drivers to control navigation, music, and calls from compatible devices. The system responds to touch inputs and also includes physical buttons and a rotary dial for menu navigation, reducing the need to reach and tap the screen while driving.

Honda's HondaLink mobile application connects to the vehicle on trims equipped with compatible connectivity, providing remote features such as locking and unlocking doors, checking fuel level, locating the vehicle on a map, and starting the engine from a smartphone. These features require a data connection and active subscription with Honda, typically included for a trial period with new vehicle purchases. After the trial ends, customers may continue service through a paid subscription or allow the features to expire while retaining basic infotainment functionality.

Voice command systems integrated into higher trim levels allow drivers to control certain functions verbally, reducing distraction by eliminating the need to look at or touch the screen. These systems recognize commands for navigation, climate control, phone calls, and music selection, though accuracy varies based on accent, background noise, and command phrasing.
