Free Guide to Sims 4 Cheat Codes and Commands
Understanding Cheat Codes in The Sims 4
The Sims 4, released by Electronic Arts in 2014, is a life simulation game where players create and control virtual people called Sims. Throughout the game, players can use cheat codes to modify gameplay and unlock special features. Cheat codes are text commands that change how the game functions, allowing players to skip certain tasks, gain money, or access hidden content without playing through normal game progression.

Cheat codes in The Sims 4 serve several purposes. Some codes give your Sims money to purchase homes or items. Others allow you to age up your Sims instantly, change their appearance, or unlock career promotions. Some cheats modify the game world itself, like making objects move through walls or speeding up time. Understanding which codes do what helps you customize your gaming experience according to your preferences.
The game includes a built-in cheat console that you can open by pressing specific keys on your keyboard. On PC, you press Ctrl+Shift+C to open the cheat box. On Mac, press Command+Shift+C. On console versions like PlayStation or Xbox, the process differs slightly. Once the cheat box appears as a text field at the top of your screen, you can type in commands and press Enter to activate them.
It's important to know that using cheats in The Sims 4 won't damage your game or prevent you from earning achievements, unlike some other games. Electronic Arts designed The Sims 4 with cheats as an intended feature for players who want more creative control. However, some players prefer playing without cheats to experience the full challenge of managing their Sims' lives and finances.
Practical takeaway: Before using any cheats, understand that they change how your game plays. Try playing without cheats first to learn the game mechanics, then use cheats to enhance your experience once you understand how everything works.
Money and Financial Cheats
One of the most commonly used cheat categories in The Sims 4 involves money. Many players use financial cheats to skip the early game grind of earning money through jobs and selling items. The most basic money cheat is "motherlode," which gives your active household 50,000 Simoleons (the game's currency) each time you use it. If you need less money, the "money [amount]" cheat lets you type a specific number, such as "money 5000" to receive exactly 5,000 Simoleons.

Another useful financial cheat is "setsimoleons [amount]," which sets your household money to a specific total rather than adding to what you have. For example, typing "setsimoleons 100000" will make your household have exactly 100,000 Simoleons, replacing whatever amount you currently own. This cheat is helpful if you want to start fresh with a specific budget or test whether you can manage with limited funds.
Some players use money cheats to test whether they can afford expensive purchases before committing their real earnings. Others use them to speed up the process of building a dream home without spending hours at work. The game doesn't punish you for using these cheats—your Sims still gain job experience and can be fired if they don't perform well, even if they have unlimited money.
Beyond direct money cheats, you can also use "freerealestate on" to purchase any house or lot in the game for free. This cheat dramatically changes how you play because you can live anywhere without saving money for a down payment. When you want to turn off this cheat, type "freerealestate off." Some players combine this with money cheats to create the perfect scenario for their gameplay style.
Practical takeaway: Use money cheats when you want to focus on storytelling and building relationships rather than grinding for income. They're particularly useful if you want to test different houses or decorating ideas without financial constraints.
Cheats for Sim Appearance and Relationships
The Sims 4 includes a robust character creation system, but you can also modify your Sims' appearance during gameplay using cheats. The cheat "cas.fulleditmode" allows you to enter Create a Sim mode while your Sim is already in the game world. This lets you change their clothing, hairstyle, body shape, and facial features without starting a new save file. This cheat is especially useful if you want to experiment with different looks for your Sims or fix an appearance you're unhappy with.

Relationship cheats modify how Sims feel about each other. The "modifyrelationship [Sim name] [Target Sim name] [amount] [relationship type]" cheat lets you adjust specific relationships. For example, you could type "modifyrelationship John Smith Jane Doe 100 Romance_Main" to increase the romance relationship between John and Jane. Different relationship types include Friendship_Main, Romance_Main, and Family_Main. Positive numbers increase the relationship, while negative numbers decrease it.
If you want to remove negative interactions quickly, you can use cheats to reset a Sim's emotional state or modify their relationships without having to roleplay through arguments and reconciliations. Some players use relationship cheats to create complex family scenarios that would take many game hours to develop naturally. Others use them to correct unintended relationship changes caused by game bugs or accidents.
The "traits.equip_trait [trait name]" cheat lets you add traits to your Sims that they might not have been born with. Traits modify how your Sims behave and what they enjoy doing. For example, adding the "Gloomy" trait makes your Sim sad more often, while "Lucky" makes them succeed more frequently at tasks. You can add traits at any point during gameplay to change your Sim's personality.
Practical takeaway: Use appearance and relationship cheats to explore different character dynamics and storytelling possibilities. They're helpful for fixing mistakes or testing how different personality combinations might interact.
Career, Skill, and Progression Cheats
The Sims 4 includes ten main skills: cooking, fitness, gardening, logic, painting, programming, writing, violin, piano, and dancing. Normally, your Sims improve these skills by repeatedly performing related activities over many game hours. The cheat "stats.set_skill_level [skill name] [level]" lets you set any skill to a specific level between 0 and 10. For example, "stats.set_skill_level cooking 10" makes your Sim an expert cook immediately.

Career progression normally requires your Sim to go to work regularly, complete tasks, and earn promotions over time. The "careers.promote [career name]" cheat skips this process by instantly moving your Sim to the next promotion level in their current job. This cheat is useful if you want to advance your Sim's career quickly or test what happens when they reach specific career milestones. You can also use "careers.demote [career name]" to move them backward in their career if you want to reset their progress.
Some cheats modify your Sim's life stage. The "cas.fulleditmode" cheat mentioned earlier also lets you change your Sim's age during gameplay. Additionally, you can type specific commands like "dressing room" to open a special interface where you can modify many aspects of your Sim without full Create a Sim mode. This is faster if you only want to change one or two things.
Aspiration cheats let you complete or modify your Sim's goals. The cheat "aspirations.complete_current_milestone" finishes the current milestone of your Sim's aspiration, earning them rewards without completing the underlying goals. This cheat helps you explore what happens after completing aspirations without putting in the work to earn them naturally through gameplay.
Practical takeaway: Use progression cheats when you want to focus on specific gameplay elements. For example, use skill cheats to jump to the fun part of a career without practicing for hours, or use aspiration cheats to unlock special rewards to test their gameplay effects.
World, Object, and Visual Cheats
Beyond modifying individual Sims, The Sims 4 includes cheats that change the entire game world or specific objects. The cheat "bb.showhiddenobjects on" reveals hidden objects in Buy Mode that are normally not available for purchase.
