Understanding FieldPrint and What It Does

FieldPrint is a fingerprinting and background check service operated by Fieldprint USA, Inc. The company processes fingerprint-based background checks for various purposes, including employment, licensing, housing, and government requirements. According to data from the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services Division, fingerprint-based background checks are one of the most common ways employers and agencies verify a person's criminal history and employment eligibility.

FieldPrint operates collection sites across the United States where individuals can have their fingerprints captured digitally and submitted to relevant background check systems. The company handles millions of background check transactions annually. Unlike other background check methods, fingerprint-based checks are considered more accurate because they use biometric data rather than name-based searches, which can produce false positives or false negatives.

The service works by capturing your fingerprints using digital scanning technology, then submitting those prints to databases maintained by the FBI, state police, and other agencies as needed. The results are typically provided to the organization that requested the background check—such as your potential employer, a licensing board, or a housing provider. FieldPrint does not make decisions about your background check results; they simply collect and transmit the fingerprints to the appropriate authorities.

Many types of positions and situations require fingerprint-based background checks. These include teaching roles, healthcare positions, work in childcare or elder care facilities, security jobs, positions requiring government security clearances, and roles in financial services. Some states also require fingerprint checks for professional licenses such as nursing, real estate, and contracting. Housing applications sometimes use background checks as part of tenant screening.

Understanding what FieldPrint does is the first step in preparing for your appointment. The company's role is purely technical—they capture biometric information and route it through official channels. They do not determine outcomes or make judgments. Knowing this helps you approach your appointment with clarity about what to expect and what happens after your fingerprints are submitted.

Practical Takeaway: FieldPrint is a fingerprint collection and submission service. Your appointment involves having your fingerprints digitally captured and sent to relevant background check systems. This is a routine, factual process that takes about 10-15 minutes at most locations.

How to Find a FieldPrint Collection Location Near You

FieldPrint operates hundreds of collection sites throughout the United States. Finding a location convenient to you is the first practical step in scheduling your appointment. The company maintains a searchable location finder on their official website at fieldprintusa.com. This tool allows you to search by zip code, city, or state to locate nearby collection sites with their hours of operation.

When searching for a location, you'll typically see several pieces of information for each site: the street address, phone number, hours of operation, and sometimes parking information. Many FieldPrint locations are housed within UPS stores, pharmacies, or other retail locations, which means they operate during standard business hours. However, hours vary by location. Some sites are open Monday through Saturday, while others may have limited weekend hours or be closed on certain days.

It's important to note that not all FieldPrint locations offer the same services or hours. Some locations may be appointment-only, while others operate on a walk-in basis or a combination of both. The location finder will typically indicate whether appointments are required at a specific site. If you're searching during evening or weekend hours, you may find fewer options available than during business days.

Consider choosing a location based on several factors: proximity to your home or workplace, hours that match your schedule, and whether you prefer an appointment-based or walk-in system. If you have a specific employer or organization requesting your background check, they may have already designated a particular FieldPrint location for you to visit. In that case, you may not need to choose—the location will already be specified in your paperwork or instructions.

If you live in a rural area or a region with limited FieldPrint locations, you may need to travel some distance. In such cases, planning ahead becomes even more important. Some individuals schedule their appointment during a trip to a larger city or coordinate it with other errands. Calling the location ahead of time to confirm hours and current wait times can help you plan your visit more effectively.

Practical Takeaway: Use the FieldPrint location finder at fieldprintusa.com to search by zip code or city. Write down the address, phone number, and hours for the location most convenient to you. Call ahead to confirm current hours and whether appointments are required or walk-ins are accepted.

Information You'll Need to Bring to Your Appointment

Arriving prepared for your FieldPrint appointment means bringing the right documents and information. This speeds up the process and prevents delays. The specific items you need depend on why you're getting the background check, but several documents are generally required at nearly all appointments.

Valid government-issued photo identification is essential. This can be a driver's license, passport, state ID card, or military ID. The identification must not be expired, though some locations may accept IDs that expired recently. Your ID serves two purposes: it confirms your identity to the FieldPrint staff, and it contains information that gets recorded as part of your background check submission. Make sure the name on your ID matches the name on any paperwork your employer or organization provided to you.

You should also bring any paperwork related to your background check request. This might include a form from your employer, a letter from a licensing board, or instructions from an organization requesting the check. This paperwork typically contains information such as the case number, reference number, or specific reason code for the background check. FieldPrint staff need this information to ensure your fingerprints are submitted to the correct recipient and for the correct purpose.

If you have previous background checks on file or know you've been fingerprinted before by FieldPrint, you don't need to bring records of that. FieldPrint's system will have that information. However, if you're applying for fingerprinting through multiple organizations or purposes, each one may require separate submissions. Bring documentation for each separate background check if you're doing more than one.

Some situations may require additional items. For example, if you're not a U.S. citizen, you may need to bring your passport and visa information or green card. If you've changed your name (through marriage, legal name change, or other means), bring documentation of that change, such as a marriage certificate or court order. These documents help ensure your fingerprints are correctly linked to your identity and any previous records.

Practical items to consider bringing: a pen (in case you need to fill out any forms), your phone (with any reference numbers or case numbers saved), and payment information if applicable (though many background checks are paid by the employer or requesting organization). Leave valuables at home since you'll need to be fingerprinted, and minimize the items you carry.

Practical Takeaway: Bring a valid, non-expired government-issued photo ID and any paperwork from your employer or the organization requesting your background check. If you've changed your name, bring documentation of that change. Call your location ahead of time to ask about any other specific items they recommend.

Understanding the Appointment Scheduling Process

FieldPrint offers different ways to schedule appointments depending on the location you choose. Some locations accept online scheduling through their website, some require phone calls, and some operate on a walk-in basis. Understanding the process at your chosen location prevents confusion and helps you schedule at a time that works for you.

For locations that offer online scheduling, you typically visit the FieldPrint website or a partnered site and select your location, desired date, and preferred time from available slots. Online scheduling usually takes only a few minutes. You'll enter your name, contact information, and any reference or case number provided by your employer or requesting organization. The system will generate a confirmation number or appointment card, which you should keep or save. Some locations email a confirmation; others show it on screen at the time of booking.

If your location requires phone scheduling, call the location directly using the number from the FieldPrint location finder. When you call, have your reference information ready. The staff member will ask for your name, the purpose of your background check, any reference or case numbers, and your preferred appointment dates and times. They'll confirm availability and book your slot. Ask them to provide a confirmation number and note the date and time they give you. Writing this information down prevents mix-ups.

Walk-in locations don't require advance scheduling, but this doesn't mean you
