Understanding IdentoGO and Fingerprinting Services

IdentoGO is a fingerprinting and background check service operated by Idemia, a company contracted by many state and federal agencies to collect biometric information. The service processes digital fingerprints and submits them to law enforcement databases for background checks. Many organizations require fingerprinting for various purposes, including employment, licensing, volunteer work, and legal proceedings.

The fingerprinting process involves capturing your fingerprints using digital scanners rather than traditional ink methods. This technology creates high-resolution images of your fingerprints that can be quickly transmitted to state and federal databases. IdentoGO operates Service Centers across the United States, with locations in most states. According to Idemia's service data, they process thousands of fingerprint submissions daily through their network of service centers.

Different organizations may request fingerprinting through IdentoGO for different reasons. Employers in certain industries, such as healthcare, education, and financial services, commonly request background checks. State licensing boards for professions like nursing, teaching, and real estate may require fingerprinting. Foster care and adoption agencies often request this service. Law enforcement and court systems may require fingerprinting for legal matters. Understanding why an organization is requesting your fingerprints helps you know what to expect during the process.

The cost of IdentoGO fingerprinting varies depending on the type of background check requested and your state's fees. Typical costs range from $10 to $50 per submission, though some organizations may cover these costs. Some states offer reduced fees for certain circumstances. It's important to understand who is paying for the fingerprinting service—sometimes the requesting organization covers the cost, while other times the individual being fingerprinted is responsible.

Practical Takeaway: Before scheduling an IdentoGO appointment, confirm with the organization requesting your fingerprints whether they will cover the cost and what type of background check they need. This information helps you prepare for your visit and understand what to bring.

How to Find IdentoGO Service Center Locations

IdentoGO maintains a network of service centers throughout the United States. Finding a location near you is the first step in scheduling an appointment. The official IdentoGO website contains a location finder tool where you can search by state, city, or zip code. This tool displays all available service centers in your area along with their addresses, phone numbers, and hours of operation.

Service centers are often located in convenient places such as shopping centers, government buildings, and office complexes. Many centers are positioned in high-traffic areas to serve the general public. Hours of operation vary by location, but many centers offer extended hours during weekdays and some weekend availability. Some locations operate during standard business hours only, while others may have evening or Saturday appointments.

In addition to the online location finder, you can call the IdentoGO customer service line to ask about service centers in your area. The phone number is typically listed on the organization's official website. Customer service representatives can provide information about wait times at different locations and may suggest the least busy times to visit. They can also answer questions about what to bring and what the process involves.

Population density affects service center availability. Urban areas typically have multiple service centers within a short distance, giving you several options to choose from. Rural areas may have fewer locations, and you might need to travel to a neighboring town or city to find the nearest service center. Some rural areas may have service centers that operate on a rotating schedule, visiting different towns on specific days.

Practical Takeaway: Use the online location finder on the IdentoGO website to search for service centers near your home, workplace, or another convenient location. Note the hours of operation and contact information before scheduling your appointment.

Steps for Scheduling Your IdentoGO Appointment

IdentoGO offers multiple methods for scheduling appointments. The most common method is online scheduling through the official IdentoGO website. The online system typically allows you to select your state, choose a service center, view available appointment times, and select a slot that works with your schedule. Online scheduling is available 24/7, making it convenient for people with varying schedules.

To schedule online, you will need to provide basic information such as your name, date of birth, contact information, and the reason for your fingerprinting. Some systems may ask for additional details depending on the type of background check being requested. The online form usually takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete. After submission, you receive confirmation with your appointment date, time, and location details, typically via email or text message.

If you prefer to schedule by phone, you can call the IdentoGO customer service number. Representatives can answer questions about the appointment process, help you find the best location for your needs, and schedule an appointment for you. Phone scheduling may take slightly longer than online scheduling, but it allows you to discuss any questions or concerns directly with a staff member. Phone lines are typically open during standard business hours and may have wait times during peak periods.

Some service centers allow walk-in appointments without advance scheduling. Walk-in availability depends on the location and current demand. During busy times, walk-ins may experience longer waits. If you choose to walk in, arriving early in the day typically results in shorter wait times. However, scheduling an appointment in advance is generally recommended because it reserves your time slot and reduces waiting.

Appointment availability typically extends several weeks into the future. During busy seasons or in areas with high demand, appointments may fill up quickly. If your preferred date and time are not available, the scheduling system shows alternative options at nearby service centers or different times. Many people schedule appointments during off-peak times, such as mid-week mornings or early afternoons, to minimize wait times.

Practical Takeaway: Schedule your appointment online if possible for convenience, or call customer service if you have questions about which service center or appointment time best fits your needs. Book your appointment as soon as you know you need fingerprinting to secure your preferred time slot.

What to Bring and How to Prepare for Your Appointment

Proper preparation helps your IdentoGO appointment run smoothly and prevents delays. The most important item to bring is a valid government-issued photo identification. Acceptable forms of ID include a driver's license, passport, state ID card, or military ID. The identification must be current or have expired within a specific timeframe, typically one to five years depending on the service center's policies. Without valid ID, the service center will likely reschedule your appointment.

You should also bring your appointment confirmation, which contains your appointment number, date, time, and service center location. While some service centers can look up your appointment using your name and date of birth, having the confirmation available speeds up the check-in process. If you received appointment confirmation via email, you can bring a printed copy or show it on your phone. If you received a confirmation number via text, write it down or take a screenshot for easy reference.

Depending on the type of background check requested, you may need to bring additional documentation. For employment-related fingerprinting, you might need to bring the request letter or form from your employer. For licensing or professional purposes, bring any relevant documentation from the licensing board or professional organization. When in doubt, contact your service center or the organization requesting the fingerprinting to confirm what documentation is required.

Practical preparation also includes planning your visit logistics. Know the service center's address and plan your route beforehand. Allow extra time for travel, parking, and check-in. Service centers can become busy during certain hours, so arriving 10 to 15 minutes early is often helpful. Avoid scheduling your appointment when you're rushed or under time pressure, as the process may take longer than expected depending on the service center's current demand.

On the day of your appointment, wear clothes with sleeves that can easily be rolled up past your elbows, as this allows fingerprint technicians full access to your hands and fingers. Avoid wearing excessive jewelry on your hands and wrists. If you have visible injuries, scars, or medical conditions affecting your hands, inform the technician when you arrive. Clean hands are helpful but not required—technicians have materials to prepare your hands if needed.

Practical Takeaway: Create a checklist of required documents (government ID, appointment confirmation, any request letters) and gather them before your appointment date. Review your service center's location and parking information to plan your travel time, and aim to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early.
