Understanding IdentoGO and What It Offers

IdentoGO is a fingerprinting and background check service operated by Idemia, a company that handles identity verification for various government agencies and private organizations. The service provides digital fingerprinting, which captures your fingerprints using electronic scanning technology rather than traditional ink and paper methods. This digital approach has become standard across many states and federal agencies because it's faster, cleaner, and produces clearer images for background check purposes.

The service is used for multiple types of background checks, including criminal history reviews, employment screenings, professional licensing, volunteer work clearance, and immigration-related fingerprinting. Different organizations require fingerprinting for different reasons—some employers need it for positions involving access to sensitive areas, schools may require it for staff members, and adoption agencies often use it as part of their vetting process. IdentoGO handles the technical collection and transmission of your fingerprint data to the appropriate government agencies or organizations that requested it.

IdentoGO operates through a network of service centers located across the United States. These centers are staffed with trained technicians who operate the fingerprinting equipment and ensure your information is properly captured and submitted. The company has expanded significantly over the past decade, with thousands of locations now available nationwide. Understanding what IdentoGO does—and what it doesn't do—is the first step in finding the right appointment for your needs.

Practical Takeaway: IdentoGO provides the fingerprinting service itself; it does not make decisions about your background or determine whether you meet requirements for any position or benefit. You seek an IdentoGO appointment when an employer, organization, or government agency has specifically requested that you obtain fingerprinting from an approved provider.

How to Search for IdentoGO Location Details Online

Finding an IdentoGO appointment location starts with visiting the official IdentoGO website, where they maintain a searchable database of service centers. The website includes a location finder tool that allows you to search by zip code, city, or state. When you enter your location information, the system displays nearby IdentoGO centers with their addresses, phone numbers, and hours of operation. This tool is designed to show you options within a reasonable distance from where you live or work, making it easier to choose a convenient time and place.

The search results typically show multiple locations in metropolitan areas, giving you choices based on your schedule and preferences. Each location listing includes important details such as whether the center is open on weekends, what hours it operates during the week, and whether appointments are required or if walk-ins are accepted. Some centers have limited hours or may be closed on certain days, so reviewing these details before visiting is important. The website also indicates whether a location handles specific types of fingerprinting requests, as some centers may specialize in certain categories of background checks.

Beyond the official IdentoGO website, you can also search for locations through individual state government websites, as many states maintain lists of approved fingerprinting providers. Law enforcement agencies, court systems, and professional licensing boards sometimes provide links to IdentoGO locations on their websites. This is particularly useful if you're searching for fingerprinting because a specific state agency or professional board has requested it. County sheriff's offices may also have information about local IdentoGO centers or can direct you to approved fingerprinting services in your area.

Practical Takeaway: Start your search using the IdentoGO location finder on their website, then cross-reference with any instructions provided by the organization that requested your fingerprinting. Different organizations may have preferred or approved providers, and checking with them first can save time.

What Information You'll Need Before Scheduling

Before you contact an IdentoGO location to schedule an appointment, gather several pieces of information. You'll need a valid form of identification—typically a driver's license, passport, or state-issued ID card. IdentoGO requires this to verify your identity during the fingerprinting process. You should also have information about who requested your fingerprinting, whether that's a specific employer, government agency, or organization. This helps the IdentoGO technician ensure your fingerprints are properly categorized and submitted to the correct recipient.

Many organizations that request fingerprinting provide you with a form or reference number that should accompany your fingerprint submission. These forms often contain important codes or case numbers that connect your fingerprints to your specific request. Having this information when you schedule helps the center staff properly prepare for your appointment. Some forms include specific instructions about which type of fingerprinting you need—for example, some background checks require "FBI clearance" while others only need state-level background checks. Understanding this distinction helps you communicate clearly with the appointment scheduler.

You should also know whether you're paying for the service and what the cost is. While fingerprinting fees vary by location and the type of service, typical costs range from $15 to $100 depending on the complexity of the background check and your state's requirements. Some employers or organizations reimburse this fee, while others require you to pay it yourself. Knowing in advance whether you need to bring payment and what forms of payment the location accepts—cash, credit card, debit card—prevents surprises on appointment day. Additionally, ask whether you need to bring any specific documentation beyond your ID, as some background check types have special requirements.

Practical Takeaway: Collect your ID, any reference forms from the organization requesting fingerprinting, information about the type of background check needed, and confirmation of the fee amount before scheduling. Having this information ready makes the scheduling process faster and ensures the appointment is set up correctly.

Scheduling Your Appointment: Methods and Options

IdentoGO offers multiple ways to schedule appointments depending on the location. Many centers allow you to book appointments through their website, which is often the fastest method. The online scheduling system typically shows available time slots for the next several weeks, allowing you to choose a date and time that works with your schedule. This method provides immediate confirmation and often sends you a confirmation email or text message with your appointment details. Online scheduling reduces phone call wait times and gives you a record of your reservation instantly.

If you prefer to speak with someone directly, you can call the IdentoGO location and schedule over the phone. The phone number for your nearest location appears in the search results on their website. When you call, have your identification information and any relevant case numbers or reference forms ready. The staff member will ask for these details to set up your appointment correctly. Phone scheduling is particularly helpful if you have questions about what to bring or need clarification about the type of fingerprinting you need. Call times vary by location, but most centers are reachable during their business hours Monday through Friday, with some locations offering weekend phone availability.

Some IdentoGO locations accept walk-in appointments, though availability varies significantly by location and time of day. If you're considering a walk-in approach, check the specific location's policy on their website or call ahead to ask about typical wait times. Walk-in appointments can be unpredictable—you might be seen within 15 minutes or wait several hours, depending on how busy the center is. This option works best if you have flexible time and your fingerprinting isn't urgently needed for a specific deadline. For most situations, scheduling an appointment in advance is more reliable and ensures you're seen at a predictable time.

Practical Takeaway: Choose online scheduling for speed and convenience, or call ahead if you have questions. Verify the location's specific scheduling options before arriving, and confirm whether walk-ins are accepted at your chosen center, as policies differ significantly.

Preparing for Your IdentoGO Appointment Day

Proper preparation the day of your appointment helps ensure the process goes smoothly and your fingerprints are captured correctly. Bring your valid government-issued ID—this is required and the technician will not proceed without it. Bring your appointment confirmation, whether that's a printed copy, an email on your phone, or your confirmation number. If you have any forms from the organization that requested your fingerprinting, bring those as well, as they often contain important reference information that must accompany your submission.

Plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This allows you to check in with the receptionist and complete any necessary paperwork. Arriving late may result in your appointment being rescheduled or cancelled, depending on the location's policies. Allow approximately 15 to 30 minutes for the entire process, though this varies based on how many people are ahead of you and whether there are any complications with capturing your fingerprints
