Free Guide to Chase Bank Notary Services

What Chase Bank Offers for Notary Services

Chase Bank provides notary services at many of its branch locations across the United States. This service is available to both Chase customers and non-customers, though policies and availability may vary by branch. A notary public is a person authorized by the state to witness signatures, verify identities, and authenticate documents. When a Chase notary notarizes a document, they confirm that the person signing is who they claim to be and that they are signing of their own free will.

Chase operates more than 4,700 branches nationwide, and many of these branches have at least one notary on staff during regular business hours. The bank does not charge a fee for notary services to most customers, though some branches may have different policies. Non-Chase customers may also use the service, though some branches might require a small fee. The specific cost and availability depend on your local branch location.

Notary services at Chase are typically performed during regular branch hours, which are usually Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday hours vary by location. Some branches may have extended hours or Saturday service. The actual time needed for notarization is usually brief—typically 5 to 15 minutes—depending on how many documents need notarizing and how busy the branch is at that moment.

The types of documents that Chase notaries can notarize include power of attorney forms, affidavits, loan documents, property deeds, vehicle titles, and various other legal papers. However, notaries cannot notarize certain types of documents, such as documents related to wills or trusts in some states, or documents where the signer is not physically present. Understanding what can and cannot be notarized helps you prepare before visiting your branch.

Practical Takeaway: Before visiting a Chase branch for notary services, call ahead to confirm that a notary is available and to ask about any fees or specific requirements your branch may have. This small step prevents wasted trips and ensures you have everything needed.

How to Locate a Chase Branch With Notary Services

Finding a Chase branch that offers notary services is straightforward. Chase provides a branch locator tool on its website at chase.com. You can enter your city, zip code, or street address to see nearby branches. The branch locator displays hours of operation, services offered, and contact information. While the online tool may indicate which branches have notary services, calling the branch directly remains the most reliable way to confirm that a notary will be available when you plan to visit.

The Chase mobile app also includes a branch locator feature. Users can search for nearby branches and view their hours without leaving the app. Some branches display service details, though you may still need to call to confirm notary availability. The mobile app can be particularly useful if you are traveling or away from your home area and need to find a notary quickly.

When calling a branch to ask about notary services, ask specific questions: Is a notary available today? What are the notary's hours? Is there a fee? Do you need an appointment, or is it first-come, first-served? What documents do you need to bring? Some branches may require you to call ahead and schedule an appointment, especially if you have multiple documents or if the branch is particularly busy. Others operate on a walk-in basis.

For customers who bank online or primarily use mobile banking, visiting a physical branch specifically for notary services might feel inconvenient. However, having documents notarized in person is often a legal requirement. Some states allow electronic or remote notarization in limited situations, but most transactions still require the notary and signer to be in the same location. Planning ahead and finding your nearest branch makes the process smoother.

Chase also offers notary services through some of its financial advisory offices and specialized locations. If you use Chase for wealth management, investment services, or business banking, your account manager may be able to direct you to the most convenient location for your notary needs.

Practical Takeaway: Use the Chase branch locator online or in the mobile app to find nearby branches, then call the specific branch to confirm notary availability, hours, fees, and whether you need an appointment before visiting.

What to Bring and How to Prepare for Your Notarization

Preparation is key to a smooth notary experience. First, bring the documents that need to be notarized. Make sure the documents are complete and ready to be signed—do not bring blank forms or partially filled documents. The notary will watch you sign the document, so you should not sign it before arriving at the branch. Bring enough copies if multiple notarized versions are needed, though you may only need one original notarized copy depending on your situation.

Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. This is required by law in all states. Acceptable forms of ID include a driver's license, passport, state ID card, military ID, or similar documents. The notary must verify your identity before witnessing your signature. If your current legal name differs from the name on your ID—for example, due to marriage or legal name change—be prepared to explain this to the notary.

Understand what the document requires before arriving. Some documents specify what type of notarization is needed. The most common type is a "jurat," where you swear or affirm that the contents of the document are true. Another common type is an "acknowledgment," where you confirm that you signed the document of your own free will. Different types require different wording in the notary's official statement, so knowing what is needed prevents delays.

If you are unsure whether a document can be notarized or what information is required, consider calling ahead or bringing a copy of any instructions that came with the document. For example, loan applications often include specific notarization requirements. Having this information ready helps the notary process your request efficiently.

Bring cash or a debit/credit card if there is a fee. While Chase does not charge customers for notary services at most branches, non-customers may pay a small fee, typically between $5 and $15 per document. Fees vary by branch, so calling ahead to confirm costs prevents surprises.

Practical Takeaway: Before visiting Chase, gather your unsigned documents, valid photo ID, and any instructions related to the documents. Call the branch to confirm what is needed and ask about any fees so you arrive fully prepared.

Understanding Notarization Rules and Limitations

Notaries have legal limits on what they can and cannot notarize. Understanding these limits helps you determine whether Chase can help with your specific needs. In all states, a notary cannot notarize a document if the signer is not physically present in front of the notary. A notary cannot take a notarization over the phone, via video call, or through any remote method in most states, though some states have recently introduced remote notarization laws for certain situations. If someone else is signing on your behalf with power of attorney, the person with power of attorney must be present, not the original party.

Many states restrict notaries from notarizing documents in which they have a financial interest or personal involvement. For example, if you are a Chase employee or if you work at Chase, a Chase notary might not be able to notarize a document where you are a party to the transaction. Similarly, a notary typically cannot notarize documents related to the notary's own property, contracts, or legal matters. This is an important ethical rule designed to prevent conflicts of interest.

Certain document types may have state-specific restrictions. For instance, some states do not allow notaries to notarize wills, trusts, or powers of attorney. Other states allow these notarizations but require additional steps. Immigration-related documents, such as affidavits for asylum cases, may have special requirements. If you are uncertain whether your document can be notarized, contact your local Chase branch or check with your state's notary laws.

The notary's role is limited to witnessing signatures and verifying identity. A notary is not a lawyer and cannot provide legal advice. If you need guidance on what type of notarization is required or whether a document is valid, you may need to consult an attorney. Chase notaries will not interpret legal language or advise you on the contents of documents.

Document quality matters too. Notaries will refuse to notarize documents that are illegible, unclear, or appear to be forged or altered. If a document has heavy corrections, cross-outs, or suspicious marks, the notary may decline to
